The Yamaha DSR118W Active Subwoofer has a compact design and features an all-new 800W Class-D amplifier with PFC (Power Factor Correction) switching mode power supply. It has a maximum SPL of 132dB (peak) and extensive protection of the transducers, amplifiers, and power supply. The DSR118W has a low-frequency extension that goes down to 40Hz. A premium-grade, custom designed transducer has a long travel, cast frame 18" woofer with high power, low distortion output. Other features include a top panel polemount for satellite configuration, a heavy-duty 16-gauge steel grille, and a locking IEC cable.
The DSR Series feature an ideal combination of advanced digital sound processing and the latest acoustic technologies for Integral Digital Tuning, plus Yamaha's all-new D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processing for Intelligent Dynamic Control. Furthermore, they harness our next-generation high power Class-D amplifiers, featuring PFC switching mode power supply for Powerful Digital Drive while power supply, amplifiers, and transducers are continuously monitored by Extensive DSP Protection.
Note: The limited warranty on DSR-Series loudspeakers is extended to five years. In addition, all qualified DSR purchasers, thus far, are also retroactively covered by this extension, from the date of original sale.

I have taught a high school rock band class for 4 years. Over the course of those 4 years we have gradually improved our sound system to include two QSC K12's For our live shows. Some of these shows have included large college basketball arenas and high school football stadiums. We have always run all instruments through our mixing console and our QSC K12's. Sound was good, but not the solid and tight sound that I heard when I heard good weekend bar bands that were running their bands through a stack of EV or JBL Subs. I really wanted to buy the QSC 18 sub woofer but was scared away by the price tag. Bought the Yamaha used from Musicians Friend with a little cosmetic damage for half of what they wanted for the QSC 18. Can't imagine that the QSC could have been any better. My little high school cover band now has the full, punchy sound that rivals bands that have spent a small fortune on their gear. ( I know, cuz I used to play in one and I know how much the owner of the band spend on the system). We are only running one Yamaha sub and I can't adequately articulate how the addition of one sub has improved the overall sound of the band. 0 problems with the sub and it has been hauled around in the back of school buses, trailers and pick up trucks for 7 months and over a dozen shows. Never had more compliments on the sound of the band ( and from people that know the difference between good live sound and ok live sound). This is a great addition to any sound system. Can't wait to add another one.

Beautiful Tight Effortless Bass!
I am so glad we got these Subs. We have a Rock band that plays medium sized venues bars etc. We did a lot of research, there are alot of good subs out there. We decided these were the best combination of quality size power for us. No research prepared us for the day we unpacked and hooked them up. we put on our test cd Marc Fords song Greazy Chicken. We just stood there with our dumb looks on our face. You know the feeling, when you just got it right, well we got it right. Tight effortless power, cranked them up high couldn't phase them. The indicator light on the front didnt even flinch. We will recommend these to everyone

Great sub, worked well with my HPR 112i as tops. Impressive low end for its size. A bit heavy but can be managed by one person once unboxed. It comes well packeged which can be a pain trying to carry by oneself. The handles on the sides are great once you have unpacked them. They are much more compact than some of the other powered offerings out there, which is great for those with smaller vehicles. I will definately pick up another sub when the funds become available. I do wish it was a little lighter, but that's the price you pay for a powered wood cabinent.
Not a whole lot of features. Left/Right ins and thrus as well as a pole cup. Unlike some powered subs, it lacks a built in crossover output. Usually not a problem since most powered tops have one anyway except maybe some of the lower priced models. It could be a negative if using passive tops since you'd have to get an external crossover.
Very ruggedly built and heavy. The exterior finish should hold up fine under normal use. From my expirience thusfar, they did not get warm at all during my testing which is great. I like the locking power plug (iec), my only issue with it is that it isn't all the flexible so coiling them is a bit of a pain. I have the same issue with my HPR 112i's, but it is not a deal breaker.
A bit on the expensive side, but compared to other offerings around the price point, you'd have to spend a few hundred more to find a better sub.
