better buy than KRK rockets

Features:

these have all the features i need. i have everything set to flat and they sound true for the space i use.

Quality:

quality seem good to me. they seem to be well built.

Value:

i think this is the best bang for the buck in this class. my first purchase were krk rocket 6's. they had almost no high end production. my mixes would be all over the place. i think they suck. the yamaha's are superior. they give a much more accurate representation of what is actually in the mix. they smoke the KRK rockets.

Overall:

overall they are a pretty accurate monitor for the money.  i would recommend them.

The frequency range and clarity on these monitors are amazing! Provide VERY accurate mixes that don't hide any imperfections. I do not own the sub but so far I haven't really needed it. I highly suggest getting these for a studio of any size. Great buy!

I just finished my basement studio/mancave and installed these monitors. These monitors are great. For the money there may not be a better pair of speakers. My friends that come over and listen to the music that comes out of them are amazed. Another great product from Yamaha.

Very Truthful Monitors

I've owned a pair of these Yamaha HS80m monitors for two years as well as a pair of HS50m monitors (which sound very similar except for the low end and the lower mids around 200hz being more prominent and clear in the HS80m). I stumbled upon these monitors during my quest to find the NS10s that so many mixing engineers and studios have used for years. NS10s don't hide the bad stuff like say a pair of ADAM A7's do. They expose it. The NS10s do a great job at translating mixes accurately onto other sound systems. With the HS80m monitors, the goal was to recreate a workhorse similar to the legendary NS10s in a new powered version. The result? An unbelievable monitor and a very accurate attempt by Yamaha. The optional EQ adjustments on the amp itself give you many variations including the ability to recreate the natural EQ of the NS10s by boosting the 2khz frequency. I can always depend on my mixes translating to any sound system accurately and consistently. I am able to pick out bad frequencies with ease. No sound is hidden or colored, only exposed. This factor makes my decision making in mixing very accurate and efficient. If you're contemplating buying these monitors vs. another pair: No other powered monitor will give you this great of accuracy for your recordings and mixes.

Incredible price for incredible monitors!

I have used many monitor sets in my pro studio, over the years and am rarely surprised by anything. I decided to give these a go, after my MSP7's arrived blown and I am glad I did. The stereo field with these monitors is incredibly wide, making it really easy to see your music in 3D. You can tell exactly where each instrument is sitting in the mix from left to right, front to back and up and down in the mix. With this information, it is very easy to find any clashing and sit your instruments where you want to. There arent many monitors on the market that allow you to do this, that dont cost thousands of dollars each. What Yamaha has given you here, is a gift. Spacial listening, without coloring. Making the listening experience wide, but flat. I suggest buying the HS10W Sub with these speakers. While they provide plenty of bass themselves, the extra thump you get from the sub, allows you to adjust the low frequencies perfectly for those listening with and without subwoofers on their home and car radios. I cant say enough good things about these monitors. You get a lot for your money and more. Perfect for the home studio on a budget or the multi-million dollar studio wanting wide ears to hear and see your music through. Buy now!
