Sounds like Class AB, but less weight

      By Anonymous

Comments about Yamaha P2500S Dual Channel Power Amp:

We ALWAYS want less weight in our amp racks, so we looked at several famous-brand Class-D amps. We've been checking them out at every NAMM show for years now. Class-D amps just don't sound as good as our old American Made Crest, Crown and QSC with AB topology. (note: NOT ALL amps from those brands are made in the USA! and not all of their products are Class AB!)Then the Yamaha Rep came by with these new P-series amps and invited us to try them, bench test them and generally abuse them for a few days. For audio-geeks, there is hardly anything as much fun as torture testing some else's new gear! So we ran these into reactive loads & questionable 2-ohm subs, let them run sine-waves and pink-noise for twenty-four hours, "accidentally" dropped them from the loading dock, you know... wholesome entertainment!Well, these amps wouldn't die! ...nor could we get them to deliver any kind of distorted signals to speakers. That's a really good thing when you're in the rental-racket, because distortion is the #1 enemy of speakers.First: They all bench-tested at rated spec or better. 2- We like the low-cut filters which are really necessary for inexperienced users who don't have any clue how to protect speakers or adjust sound.3- These are the best-sounding amps of their type, easily comparable with American Class AB amps. I say that because of the way they drive speakers without distortion at nearly minimum attenuation. That's the real world test of any amp.4-Although I read Yamaha's white-paper on their proprietary EEE technology, I do not claim to understand it all, but I do know this: These SOUND LIKE good Class AB power amps but weigh a lot less. The price is great, especially when you consider that these actually deliver 100% of the rated RMS power. That is NOT true of most Class-D amps! SO, for price-to-performance ratio, these are top-notch. There's no bargain in buying 1000 peak watts if you can only get those watts into 2 ohms, for one-millisecond over one-tenth bandwidth according to some bogus "a-weighted" scale. These Yamaha engines deliver ALL the horsepower they claim!Another important thing here: If you intend to run separate subs, these are a good choice, either for the high or low end. It's easy to configure them with the back-panel switches. If you are running just vocal-range or guitar-range sound-sources, the low cut feature is an important addition. Use it. Your mixes will sound better, your monitors can be louder and you will be less likely to pop a woofer with random stage noises. After trying these for a week, we bought four. They have been in nearly daily service for six-months with no problems, despite the fact that we rent to bass-hungry DJs and other clueless tech-tards. They run very cool and quiet, so these would be good candidates for low-noise installations, although I have yet to try them in that application. For sound quality: A+Features: A+Price ... A-Reliability? Well, we want to get ten years service to amortize our investment. If the amps are still working after I'm retired, I'll post another note here. ;-)One little problem: The front handles are too big. How often do you really need those anyway? Sure they look nice, but the only time I need them is when I install or remove an amp from the rack. If this amp works like I want it too, I should only have to touch those handles ONCE. Check YOUR rack for clearance! assuming it fits in your rack, this is a great choice at a reasonable price.

Comments about Yamaha P2500S Dual Channel Power Amp:

I have been using this amp for a few months now. There really isn't anything that doesn't satify me about this unit. Quiet, clean operation. Beautiful signal reproduction. I am using this unit to power my 150W passive monitors from Yami EMX5000-20 via AUX1&2. The 400W mains are run at the board. Good clean monitors with tons of clarity. Excellent unit. If it had a front panel mute I'd give it a 10!

Comments about Yamaha P2500S Dual Channel Power Amp:

I purchased this amp to power my stage monitors. I temporarily hooked it up to my main speakers and subwoofers as a test. This amp powered the big speakers loudly and clearly. It makes my monitors sound great too!
