I play mostly acoustic professionally and dabble at home with electric classic rock. After years of lugging around two great-sounding but HEAVY Fender Acoustasonic SFX amps as a makeshift stereo PA rig, I finally decided to look for a compact, sturdy, and great-sounding alternative. After a good deal of research and testing, I settled on the Yamaha Stagepas 300. For its size, the Stagepas sounds excellent and suits my needs for most of the venues I play. Larger places generally have their own systems, anyways. As a straight PA for singer/songwriters, the system sounds great. The small speakers worried me at first, but I quickly learned that they really sound full and handle most bass well (especially proximity effect of vocal mics). I use a Shure SM58 for vocals, a SM57 to mike the acoustic guitar, and then run the electronics of the acoustic through a chain of Fishman stereo acoustic effects through the 1/4" jack stereo inputs of the compact mixer. It sounds absolutely wonderful! At home, I like to jam and record with my electric guitars, and I'm here to say that this little PA also works great at low to moderate volumes with amp simulations and multi-effects pedals. I own a Digitec RP500 and the Stagepas' clean output really compliments the pedal. It also works well with my keyboard. There's little to no hum, buzz, or distortion, which I think is the key to this powerful little system and its sound. I also thought the two-band (as opposed to three-band) equalization of each channel would be a problem, but as I discovered, the sound-shaping capabilities and simplicity was surprisingly good. Finally, I am elated at how easy the Stagepas is to move around and set up. The optional case is a nice accessory to the system, as is the microphone stand adapter for the mixer. The Stagepas even has a direct out for a powered monitor. The system is very sturdy and well-built. All in all, a compact, clean-sounding versatile sound solution that suits almost all my needs. Several friends commented at one gig that it sounded better than the Bose tower PA used by the guy before me. To me, it's the best compact PA system out there. I'm satisfied and hope to get some years of satisfaction out of it.

These speakers sound great, no two ways about it. Reasonably loud and full, far more bass than I expected, decently balanced. It's not even all that painful that you only have two bands of EQ, cause the speakers just sound really nice by themselves. The onboard reverb really is a joke. It's like someone's bad audio processing programming excercise... not even a reverb, technically just the lamest tick-tick-tick delay you can imagine. You'll get more "reverb" from the sound of the small room you're probably using these in. T I can't imagine why Yamaha didn't throw in a better reverb (even the Nady PA we use has a nicer delay) when Behringer packs almost their entire Virtualizer fx unit into their mixers. The mixer you get here offers no aux or effects send - and the reverb is unusable. You can use the monitor ("Powered Speaker") or tape out from the mixer to an external fx box, and route it back in to one of the stereo channels for a decent outboard reverb, but... this thing is supposed to be making things simpler. I wouldn't mind the extra box of rack mount gear to hold the Virtualizer (I already own the stuff, may as well use it) but I am annoyed that I can't properly use the exciter that's sharing rack space with it.It's all about the options. This setup does something very limited rather well... but you have no room at all to grow.I'm tempted to return it and buy one really nice Mackie powered speaker and save up gig money for the second Mackie... and then a third for a monitor. I've got an old Behringer mixer sitting around... and that thing has many times the features of the little mixer you get with this setup.

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
I have this unit, if you hit a high note on your classical guitar it clips very easily and cuts off.the reverd sound more like a delay. don't play this unit in a loud crown you will bust your speakers (I already did). I'm sorry but my system is now in storage.

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
We have used this system for playing small to medium sized church services for the past several months and we are all pleased with the sound and portability of it. Wish it had phantom power, but other than that, you can't ask for more for the price. Highly Recommended!

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
I was looking for an amp for small gigs for acoustic guitar and vocals, and to practice with. I've never found an acoustic amp I was totally satisfied with. Best performance has always been through a larger PA system. I wanted something more portable, but also with great sound. The Stagepas 300 fills the bill. It's compact and easy to set up. The size actually rivals that of some acoustic amps. With the powered mixer tucked back in place, you can grab one speaker, a guitar, and a mic stand, and do a gig. First time I tried it I couldn't believe the sound. I've bascially only used it for pratice so far, and I can't wait to try it on a gig. I just wish it had built in stand mounts (instead of the add on mounts), then it would be perfect. Good job Yamaha.

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
I have used these for wedding ceremony gigs since 2007 with no problems.
SO easy to carry and set up! Lightweight ('m female & over 60), simple, very functional design (like the built-in carry handles).
I use them for keyboard plus my vocal mic, sometimes an extra mic for the minister or a flute. Enough inputs... built in reverb...
I have also used them as a monitor setup, and the case is shaped so they can sit at the right angle for a floor monitor.
The amp part mounts right into the back of one speaker. You then need 2 cables: one short jumper to connect amp to that speaker, one long cable to run to the other speaker. You could also use just the one powered speaker for PA for a speaker.
Great rig for singer-songwriters.... not sure how they'd sound if somebody was really wailing thru them, but they might be fine... I just don't use them for that.

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
Great light weight system. The sound from this thing is really surprising. For the money, it's a lot of bang for your buck. I compare to a compact Fender and compact Peavy system of similar design that I own. This one blows both out of the water. It's not complicated to run, and I installed it in a semi perminant location where people with no experience routinely run it with no problem

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
I bought this expecting a no frills PA. I sing for a metal band and just needed something so I could hear my self at practice. Soon as I got it I plugged it in to my record player at home, and was absolutely amazed by the sound clarity. I bought it to use for band practice and it works perfectly, but now when I am at home it has completely replaced my home theatre speakers.

Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
I've used these mostly as a piano/amp. I like the stereo spread that it gives my Roland RD700SX. It's been great for being able to point one speaker at a certain player/spot in the room and one at myself if need be.
My main problem with it is the lack of functions. It has reverb included, but for vocals, I couldn't recommend this feature. It's like a junky delay more than anything. And there's no fx loop to introduce any outside reverb which kind of sucks.
It is loud enough for most average-volume, medium size rooms and has severed me well for probably 100+ gigs. They seem extremely durable, but I have used the case that is recommended.
Overall, solid rig. I think keyboard players should give it a shot!

I am very pleased with my purchase of the STAGEPAS 300. It is incredibly easy to use and transport. If you have worked with larger PA systems in the past, this will be a breeze. If you are just getting started, it's as close to idiot proof as you will get for this quality of sound. Keep in mind what you want to use it for. I need it for an acoustic duo playing private parties, restaurants and small venues. So far it has been tested at private parties, and it delivers. I rated it a 9 because I have yet to use it for 3-4 hour gigs or outdoors, and I have read that it heats up and can shut off temporarily to cool itself. This has yet to be an issue (playing 2 sets of 45-60 minutes duration), and may never be an issue. But it is something I am aware of, and so am prepared to cross that bridge if it comes. A tip by a fellow musician who gigs regularly with a STAGEPAS is to keep a small portable fan facing the mixer to keep it at cooler temperature, as well as avoid putting it in direct sunlight when playing outdoor venues.
I've been using Yamaha PA equipment for 10 years now, and have yet to be disappointed. This one delivers too.
I feel I'm getting as much bang for my buck as possible with this system.
Comments about Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System:
Our church has a nursing home ministry and we used this system there. The room is a pretty good size room where we play and it fills it up pretty good. You wouldn't want touse it in a large venue or outdoor place where a lot of volume would be required and I wouldn't recommend pushing huge amounts of bass through it because of the small speaker size. The good thing about it being easy to carry is nursing home doors are often cumbersome and hard to fight with. Such as the case in this nursing home. 3 sets of doors to go through and one is electronically locked by a code so a heavy PA is one less hassle we have to worry with.
