OVERVIEW

Mic bass drum and floor toms for maximum low-end impact!

The Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device is a new breed of subfrequency (below 100Hz) capture devices designed to bring out the natural sound of bass drums and floor toms. SubKick uses the natural microphonic qualities of a 6-1/2" woofer shockmounted inside a 7-ply birch/mahogany shell. Mesh heads are mounted on the outside, which adds a tiny bit of sustain. The natural resonance of the shell combined with the heads and loudspeaker create an awesome subfrequency sound that must be heard to be believed. The SubKick works great by itself or can be used together with other drum mics. An XLR output makes for easy hookup.

The SubKick Device was designed by Yamaha Drum Artist Russ Miller, who was looking for a mic system that allowed the uncolored sound of the bass drum and floor toms to come through. Finally the full force of the drum set's low end performance is realized with SubKick.

FEATURES
  • 6-1/2" woofer (frequency response 20Hz-8kHz)
  • 10" black mesh heads
  • 7-ply birch/mahogany shell
  • XLR output (no phantom power required)

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

This subkick captures frequencies normal kick mics can't. Using the subkick along with a kick mic will make your bass drum or other low frequency device sound amazing!

It is a little pricey but worth it and you do get Yamaha quality.

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

Alright guys, I was at the house of blues, watching one of the greatest bands of all time... Flogging Molly (the irish folk/punk band) I saw this thing called subkick on the bass drum and I was just baffled. But when they came on that thing made a world of difference, im not quite sure how it worked, but all i knew was that the bass sounded better that ever :)

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

I am a stage handler and a show that came through town used this sub-mic. I had never seen this before and I was looking forward to hearing it. I was very impressed. I set up audio for a living and I had heard about these but never used one. WOW what a difference. Simple in design, amazing results.

    The kick of the SubKick

    By Goat Boy

    from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

I was at a worship conference and one of the bands playing there was Delirious. I got an early seat that night and was surprised and confused by something that looked like a high tom or a picolo snare turned vert-style. I was scratching my head trying to figure out how the drummer would hit such an instrument when I saw the words "SubKick" written on the front of it. I didn't know what to expect until the music started and I could hear the clarity of the kick from outside the sanctuary! And it was an arena-size sanctuary. In short, this thing rocks!

    Half of a perfect setup

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

This Mic combined with a D-6 is all you will ever need for kick miking. you can make tracks positively explode. I honestly have a hard time getting enough punch from this on it's own but combined with a D-6 this will knock you on the floor. it's an A on it's own and an A+ for use with another mic. the only reason I go low on value is because you can literally build your own in about 10 minutes for about 10 bucks.

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

I played a show with a drummer who had recently purchased one of these and was kind enough to let me use it on my kit, which is the maple Ludwig Zep Set with the 26 x 14 bass drum. Talk about a phenomenal booming sound (and this was outdoors). I'd like to purchase one of these in the near future for myself.

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

This microphone picks up low end like no other. It gives you that thump you may be looking for when you record bass guitar or kick drum. As suggested by other reviewers, I would recommend the simultaneous use of a room mic or another mic with a wider range, to capture a wider range of low frequency.

      The Subkick is awesome

      By Logan Graff

      from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Yamaha SubKick Low-Frequency Capture Device:

I was recently at PASIC 2003, and I was fortunate enough to be able to actually test and play the Subkick. I must say, it is amazing. It creates so much of a difference it is astonishing. I am now going to purchase one for myself as soon as possible. I would even buy it if the price was doubled, as I think so highly of it.
