I had tried out this pedal and decided to buy one for myself, used. The pedal is versatile, simple and overall a great pedal. The pedal is not true-bypass which turns some players off, and the effect is VERY digital sounding at times. This, however, is not a bad thing. I play a lot of music that compliments subtle modulation effects (analog or digital) and having the freedom to tempo tap, use an expression pedal and change the parameters is fantastic. This pedal is pretty quality despite what some snobs say about buffered-bypass and digital effects. At least go check it out!

The boss ph-3 phase shifter has always worked really well for me. I mainly play metal but I have fun from time to time playing classic rock and more toned down music. This pedal wont give you the natural sounding phase you would get from an mxr phase 90 but I didn't buy it for that. I didn't like how the phase was barely audible with the mxr. The boss ph-3 almost works better as an auto wah than a phaser. it ALSO HAS A VERY UNIQUE VIBRATO SOUND TO IT WHEN YOU RAISE THE RATE KNOB. I HAVE HAD THIS PEDAL FOR ABOUT A YEAR, USUALLY MY PEDAL BOARD IS EVER CHANGING BUT THIS PEDAL ALWAYS MAKES THE CUT. The only drawback that gets annoying is the tap tempo activating itself. If you step on the switch for anything more than a half second it goes into the tap mode so you need to be sure to stomp the switch and raise your foot rite away. There is also a noticable drop in volume if you are going through an amp with distortion on.

This is a great Phaser. I got it to replace my Sovtek Smallstone that I had for years. Compared to that thing this this pedal has an enormous amount of features. As with all pedals there is a bit of a learning curve. When I get a new pedal, I always fell like I am commiting myself to learn a new instrument. I love this pedal and it will remain a part of my pedal board for years to come.

A friend of mine had a PH-2 which I absolutely loved. I wanted to get one but it was discontinued so I blindly bought a PH-3 thinking it was the same but with more features. Boy was I wrong. It sounded nothing like a real phase shifter but rather a bad digital EQ being swept back & forth. Later, I discovered IT WAS a bad digital EQ made to simulate phase shifters. Plus it had a tendancy to go into tap mode without meaning to do so. I traded it for a PH-2 a month later and had it for over 3 years now.

This is an awesome phase shifter. I recieved it last Christmas and let me tell, it does not bore me. It has a wide range of tonal effects allowing you to manipulate almost every little tonal detail. Effect can range form classic EVH sounds to blues to weird extremely fast phasing.
The extremes are fun for about a minute or so but the normal modes are great.
The tap tempo is a great feature that helps if you want to change the speed of the phasing in the middle of a song.
Be warned, using this pedal, on a clean amp with a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal on, will result in getting a completely washed out sound. The volume is also sucked out of the distortion leaving a weak sound.
This is my only problem but it does not bother me much.
Anyway this pedal works pretty much with any amp, guitar or other pedals, while being near indestructible.
5/5!
