High voltage for high performance! |
With its stereo I/O, the DigiTech HardWire CR-7 is a chorus pedal offering you 7 chorus effects, ranging from Multivoice and Studio to Boutique, Vintage, and more. Precision control knobs include speed, depth, level, and type. True bypass and high-voltage operation are standard features on the DigiTech CR-7 pedal.
The DigiTech HardWire pedals series represents DigiTech's commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all HardWire pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction; a wide, stage-stable footprint; durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip; and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay intact.
The rugged, durable construction of DigiTech Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each DigiTech HardWire pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal, and high voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.
With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by a guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal—normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. As such, HardWire pedals benefit a wider range of guitars and are also at home in an amplifier's effects loop.

They're not kidding

I bought the chorus to add texture to my single channel 100w tube head through a full stack.
Before buying I read about the features of Digitech Hardwire series stomp pedals. Its all true. The true bypass is helpfull. I think you can find about any type of Chorus you can imagine in it.
I went and bought the Metal Distortion, and the Stereo Reverb and my Effects are dialed in exacly how I want to sound. I think they are the best made stomp box on the market.
They are very tough. You get a Stomplock with it and if you kick your box hard it will not mess up the settings that you made. I use the glow in the dark pad that came with them. If the lighting goes dim or your just in a crazy light show you can still see them glowing in the dark.
The downside to this pedal is that I recommend also buying the PS200-R power supply because the battery life to the stereo chorus is 4 or 5 hours and it is a battery vampire!
Killer sounds though, yours is in there.

Shocking surprise!!!

So I'm putzing around in the local music store, and I see the Hard Wire pedal display sitting there. I had never heard of them, and was in the market for a chorus pedal, so I plug into the CR-7 chorus and give it a whirl. Wow!! Super clean chorus with NO added hiss, and true bypass. True stereo too, though I run my Tele into Input 1 then output 1 to my Rivera Chubster; my Takamine into input 2 then output 2 to the PA - works great. Seven types of chorus, and all sound distinctly different. The simple Level, Speed and Depth knobs actually have detents when you turn them - so you know when you are adjusting your settings. The casing is steel, and weighs about 3 pounds - reminds me alot of the ISP Decimator. Included in the box is mounting velcro, a footswitch glow sticker (though the LED is plenty bright enough) and a handy "StompLock" that mounts over the knobs to preserve your settings (a la the Phase 90 knob cover). The power supply is not included (though a battery is) so I'm knocking off a half-point. I didn't let the DigiTech name attached to these sway my opinion, and I'm glad I didn't. Great sound, great features, and great construction. Surprise yourself and pick one up.

Adds bass boost...

This pedal sounds very nice, except for the fact that on the studio and multi chorus settings it adds a huge bass boost. Which means that if you have all your sound tweaked to perfection and then you kick that on, it'll having you wishing you had a graphic EQ pedal hooked up to turn on with it. The Analog chorus setting has a hint of flanger in it, which I don't care for. The Boutique setting is way too swirly and weird. Other than this above, I'd say its built very solid, just needs some final tweaking. I also love how they send you a whole, cut to fit, velcro piece for the bottom, and a glow in the dark sticker to put on the footswitch so you can see it on dark stages. They also include a rubber cover that covers the knobs so they can't be turned until you remove the cover. Digitech: Please tweak the bass bosst out of this and then I'll rebuy it. I sent mine back.
