The M159 Stereo Tremolo has a lot to offer if you're looking for a decent tremolo pedal. Sure, tremolo, in essence, may be a very basic kind of effect in that it just cuts volume. But I think when you start messing around with the various parameters of that volume-cutting, you'll find that there's a lot more to it than you might have realized. This pedal offers just about all of the necessary features for tremolo: depth, rate, and a wave-shape option that ranges from sharp and square to smooth and sinusoidal. This last wave-shape option is what sold me, because I like to use tremolo in a slow and shallow way that compliments my delay and chorus effects. And even though I don't believe it has a true triangle-shape option, I don't really miss it much, though some people might. It also has a very nice panning feature that takes advantage of the stereo outputs, which you don't find all that often. Overall, very nice and sturdy pedal, albeit a little bigger than I think it really needs to be. It may also seem pricey for some looking for a tremolo pedal, but I think its unique features justifies the purchase. Very nIcEeEeEeEe!

I've always wanted the classic tremolo sounds as heard in the old Fender amps, so after some looking around I decided on the MXR M159 Tremolo. I paired this up with my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe/Les Paul and was quite impressed. It is smaller than it's previous version which is a big plus. As for sound, the tremolo sounds can go from smooth and subtle to quick and choppy. The pedal is very quiet and to my ears doesn't alter the tone at all...just clean, natural sounding volume swells of your original tone. Dialing in that Creedance "Midnight Special" sound is a breeze. This pedal also works very well with my bass setup.

Where this pedal really shines is it's ability to pan your signal back and forth between two amps. I set up my Fender along with another solid state amp and was amazed at the 3 dimensional sounds produced in the room. Place the amps in different parts of the room for that classic stereo shifting sound...run some reverb (if your amp has it) for even more spaciousness. Place them together and turn one amp 180 degrees for a natural sounding phase effect (very similar to a Leslie). All this with out altering your tone one bit...the additional effects are all coming from the acoustics of the room you're in. Of course this takes a little bit of experimentation with placement...but it's worth it.

Overall I'm very happy with it. Yeah...it's a bit pricey, but I think it's a solid sounding unit all the way around...plus MXR builds tough pedals that will last. Also, plan on using an adapter...this thing takes two, count em, TWO...9 volt batteries.

This pedal is warm analog tremolo. Its smooth, cold (in a good way), not overbearing unless you turn everything up. Its built like a tank. The 18 volt operation ensures ultra quite tones. This pedal paired up with the MXR Stereo Chorus and Flanger is great. Waht else could you need. I get everything from vintage stereo or mono tremolo tones to chopped up helicopter effects. They all sound very very analog, not digital fizz and crackle.

The MXR Tremolo has got to be the best tremolo all around. Nice analog feel with nice and warm tone. I typically use the pedal as a subtle effect which it handles very well but you can go all the way to the extremes with this one without sounding completely fake. If you are in the market for a tremolo - go with MXR.
