Two weeks ago I bought a 2001 Martin D-28 Dreadnought. Fantastic! High and low notes with a good volume. Great picker! My dream came true. Before (and still) I was playing a Guild D25M from 1976. Also a good workhorse. The sound is less in volume but together with my Martin I can change a gitar to play in an open tune or normal.

Bought my D 28 on Staten Island, NY. Great place to experience you can play all guitars Martin, Gibson, Taylor and so on. After playing for about 2hours I really liked the set up on the D28. Sound was fantastic. Action was great. Plays better now switched strings to EXP 16 D’Addario. I was playing a Guild D35 from 1972. This is a fantastic guitar no longer made and I wouldn't touch a Guild know that it's own by Fender. It was time for a new guitar. My friend Sam pointed me in the right direction. Martin.

Martin have a reputation for quality, craftsmanship, tone and playability - in fact they have a reputation for great guitars. The d28 is in my opinion THE classic acoustic guitar. One of the things i appreciate is the lack of ornamentation. This means that all of the money spent on this guitar is spent on exactly that - Guitar - and not inlay etc. The woods used are exceptionally good, the sound is superb and it is a lovely thing to own. Mine is a '93 and its true that they just keep getting better with age. I would suggest buying used to get a head start on the ageing process, although these guitars are played by musicians not collectors so expect a little wear at pickguard etc. This is my favourite guitar. Go buy one. It doesn't get better than a martin d28.

I tried numerous acoustic guitars including Gibsons, Taylors, and less expensive models and nothing feels like and sounds like a Martin. You can tell the high quality and manufacturing in the way it plays and sounds, and it also is versatile in a variety of music. I know it's expensive, but you can find good deals and you won't be disappointed.

Martin D28 forever

If you own a D28 you know the quallity of sound, powerfull when required, yet suttle when needed. The highs are clear, mids are balanced, bass distinguished and has the D28 sound that can be hammered ,strummed or lightly finger picked and still produce top quality sound. The bracing is not scalloped giving a clearer sound quality than scalloped bracing. I traded up to get my 1988 D28P (p meaning low profile adjustable truss rod). This one will not be traded or sold, it's a keeper. If you have not tried one, do it. If you do you may buy or trade up to a keeper too.
