I bought this because it was on sale but it sounds better than more expensive units I have owned and is really versatile. Buy this flanger and make sure you try the sample settings in the manual to get some idea what this baby can really do. Dead silent switching and the effect level control really helps dial it in. Take a little time to set it up and you will not be disappointed.

underated flanger

I think rocktron stuff is underated. The designs are down right smart. Like I said in my compressor review, componet quality might be an issue with some pedals, but these things can produce some magic.

I do not use effects for the effects sake. This is where rocktron has their ear to the ground. Alot of their effects are subtle, yet musical. This flanger is one. A level pot?? Excellent.

The manual gives example settings that WORK. The flanger works best in an effects loop, and placement with other effects is not as critical because of the LEVEL CONTROL.

This unit does not sound like your 'playing a flanger'. It's fairly tranparent. Same with the crush.

Service is top drawer. I had a problem with a big crush and they rectified the situation Immediatly. Thanks guys.... Im buying more of your prouducts.......

Subtle but High Quality

I expected it to be a little larger (no big deal.) I was disappointed that it really didn't have a "wild Side" but it has a nice subtle effect, something you could use regularly without it being "in your face." I also realized at certain settings it sounded like a hybrid of Chorus and Flange. I plan on keeping it cause "Wild Side" is not my usual side. :-)

A different style flanger

While being digital, or as far as I can tell, the sound is quite different from other Flangers, say Boss or DigiTech models. I have the X Series DigiTech flanger and while I like it, it is very bright and intense, whereas the Rocktron Hypnotic Flange Pedal is warmer and subtle...which means you'd better take a test drive on this one.

Considering it's inexpensive price, it's at minimum competitive and at best, reasonably priced for its ability to create subtle to moderate flange with a warmer sound than most foot pedal units.

I too was not as pleased with the Trance mode but must admit it does some nice chorus on flange type sounds. Also, unless I read about the Hypnotic Flange, this unit isn't meant to be your typical Flanger. Also, placement with the rest of your foot pedals matters.

I like Rocktron pedals because some units like the Hypnotic Flange are a bit off the beaten path and offer new ways of thinking of how one works with effects. I feel similarly about Rocktron's Vertigo pedal, which at times shares some timbres with the Hypnotic Flange.

Good for experimental players, worth trying before buying for others.

You would think for the number of controls on this box you could get a very unique sound with every turn, but what I've found is that about 2 make the majority of sound changes and the others add very little. The Hypnotic button was disappointing. It seems to add a digital "chirp" at intervals but do little else.
