Now becoming obselete & limited to only 48khz recording, there are better options for sure. But i bought this unit at the start of 2005 & have had nothing but good times with it. To me? it's been extremely durable & the recording quality has been crystal clear, No problems with the driver version 3.30 & the midi tasking has worked like a dream. Vocals have been the only issue due to the lack of a pre amp but besides that? for the price? it has served me really really well. Kudos tascam

Bought it just few days ago, installed latest drivers and installation was very easy (few minutes). Seems that drivers kind of overrule windows system but I don't care at all. Indeed computer freezes in case its going into standby, but that doesn't concern me at all; just keep working with it or disable standby when working on battery! No blue screens for me and the device is working without problem on windows XP home.

I appreciate the sound quality and have no klicking noises or whatever. No noise on headphone or line output, even with the volume full open! To me it seems to be very stable as long as you treat it right and when I unplug it, the internal soundcard of my AMD (turion dual processor) laptop just takes over immediately. I use Adobe Audition 1.5 and it works fine.

Note that you connect the mics to the mic inputs, they are more sensitive than the line/guitar inputs...

Don't understand all the negative reviews, I'm just glad I could still buy a new one... Very good quality for the price!

Wow. You cannot seriously buy a worse deal. The sound is TERRIBLE. Yes, It is easy to use, but it is a complete hassle to get the sounds you want out of this. Even the low price is way too much for this. I'm sorry, but its the truth. save up your money and invest in something else because spending even 5 times as much on something else will be completely worth it.

This is my second one. It is true, you get what you pay for. My biggest complaint is OUTPUTS, ONLY TWO. If you don't mind mixing via your computer than its ok. I don't. So I'm looking at the motu ultra lite 10 by 14. I've had my second unit for almost a year and its holding up so far. Believe everything being said about this unit, And think outputs and even firewire. I will be up grading and passing this unit on to a friend. (Is that truly what a friend would do)? chuckle..and then even go as far as to add a control surface.

Being new to home PC recording I purchased this unit just a little over two years ago. I wanted to make my first Guitar recordings ever, and this unit did just that.The only draw back of this little gem is that the noise can be a little high on both channels sometimes and it will take a little tweaking to get this right. My right hand channel would not apply and VST effect to the associated recordings either. Other than that I am happy with this unit as it proved its worth to a beginner in recording. Get kick start into the world of recording for any enthuastic hobbyist or novice, even for a professional it is a good piece of Auxilary equipment for the hardened music pro.
