      OVERVIEW

      Cello sound without sitting down.

16" viola dimensions with interior body modifications and specially designed strings combine to make a chin-position instrument that has the sound of a cello. With a ChinCello, the strolling string quartet becomes possible, and a ChinCello is the perfect choice when performing space is limited. It's also lots of fun to play.

      Comments about Bellafina ChinCello Outfit:

I regularly play viola and have played a bit of cello. The ChinCello lets me play cello parts on an instrument that I'm more comfortable with since it is nearly the same size as my viola. Legato passages are much easier on the ChinCello than they are on a cello.

Rapid bowing or playing off the string is not quite as good, however. The C and G strings are so heavy and at such low tension, they don't speak as quickly as the C and G on a cello.

Intonation on the C string is interesting. The string becomes much sharper with more bow pressure. You have to compensate with the left hand.

Despite the quirks in this instrument, I've been having a lot of fun playing it.
The ChinCello comes with a nice case and an ok bow.
Considering the price, it is surprisingly good. It's tone is pretty good for such a small instrument playing in the bass register. It's not quite a full-sized cello in tone.
For the price and the overall quality, I rate this a very high value.
