Very Nice

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

I don't think you can get a better mike for under $500.
I've been using this mic in my home studio for 4 years now and I have never had a problem.
This mic sounds very nice. A little on the crisp side. It is so excellent for recording acoustic guitar, that I would still use it if I won the lotto.

Worst experience ever.

By Derek-oFd6I

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

I ordered one and I used it once, the fuse blew in the power supply. Replaced the fuse, used it again and it worked OK. The 3rd time is used it, it tripped a fuse in my buddys house and when we got it back on, the mic was dead. Wrote CAD about it and they sent me a new one. First time I used it the fuse blew AGAIN! I'm afraid to use it again. I want to throw it in the garbage.

2 Of These DOA

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

Guys, as a fellow musician and a loyal Musician's Friend customer feel the need to post this. Ordered this mic 2 times, both dead out of the box. Got the 2nd one tonight. Couldn't believe it. Just a heads of for whatever it's worth. In my humble opinion, Musician's Friend needs to QC these before shipping them. Heard great things about this unit but I'll never own one.Jimmy

Perfect

By OL' SCHOOL

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

I have gone back to my recordings with this mic. I didn't appreciate it when I had it but now i'm gonna have to get another. I got rid of it because I needed the cash. Then I started using a chinese mic. No comparison in retrospect. I was in a big hurry tracking. Now I can spend some time and compare the two. Cad is the clear winner. It just sounds pro. Just like your favorite songs on your favorite CD or the radio. And guess what, its made in Ohio. Great customer service and great products. I had a piece of my shockmount break and they sent me a new piece in two days. I think i'll buy CAD from now on. Don't let the low prices of their M series and Trion series convince you that they are cheap. They are just a rare value.

Amazing Mic AT ANY PRICE!!!

By Daniel Gil

from Boston

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

I'm very impressed with this mic, to say the least. I always hear things like 'its a great mic, at that price point' or ' for the money its a steal'. Whereas both of these statements apply to the CAD m9, it is also just a good mic period, end of story, regardless of the price. I like this better than my other mic, which cost about 4 times the price. I've heard mic tests in which this one can really hang with the big names. As far as sound is concerned; the lows are tight and clean, the mids are open yet not overly so, and the highs give a real feel of space to the source, without sounding harsh. It is a very real sounding mic, yet it seems to flatter in just the right way without being obvious. Did I mention that you can easily change out the tube, not while it's plugged in, but when its out of its shockmount. This adds the ability to get a really high end tube, which will enhance the already beautiful sound of this mic.

Decent value

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

I've owned this mic for about 2 years now and have been fairly satisfied with it's overall performance, with one notible complaint. The tube pre-amp is not very well shielded and occasionally picks up radio transmissions which obivously makes it unusable for recording. I guess that would depend on the location and the radio frequencies in your area, but certainly worth mentioning.

Deceptively good mic

By Water's Edge

from Vancouver BC

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

This mic has been in my arsenal for a year. I picked it because the price was right and the reviews were very solid. My first impression with an acoustic guitar that there is no question about its significant, big sound on the bottom and its pristine articulation of the top end. Impressive. After many months I began to give the M9 some serious time as vocal mic - and discovered that it is highly favorable (using a Grace pre amp). So much so that it has earned its way to the "go to" vocal mic category - which is very much to my surprise (the competition is stiff) But there you have it. For the money - a steal! Super clean, quiet, engaging tube richness, immediacy and texture. Acoustic string instruments and vocals shine.Extremely rugged, excellent sonics and some additional features (i.e. pads) make the CAD M9 a qualified winner especially given the pricepoint.

An excellent buy

By homestudioguy

from South of Chicago

Comments about CAD M9 Tube Large Diaphragm Microphone:

I recently bought this mic from Musicians Friend based on comments on Recording Forums and Reviews. They were all correct. For the money, the M9 is fantastic buy. My specific mic has some minor finish flaws and I have read that the mic should definitely used upside down to keep the tube heat away from the body of the mic especially in extended single term use or the heat could melt epoxys holding things together.
