Comments about Berg Larsen Metal Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:
This is the third Berg I've owned in twenty six years as a sax player. It's the first one I've tried with a darker number 2 chamber, and I only wish I had bought a similar mouthpiece years ago. I play a Yamaha 61 alto and it projects a fairly bright modern tone to start with so the darker colors of this m/piece really bring out the warmth and the quality of the horn. It sounds like another saxophone now! Seriously, I know what a zero chamber plays like and I think a number 2 chamber is much more musical on my bright Yamaha. As a player I'm in the Sanborn camp and this m/piece is a very stable and professional piece. It's as bright as I need it to be but will still pull back when I want it to as well. It's not as flexible as a Meyer but if you want a modern tone with rock-solid stability then a Berg Larsen will do it. Just beware the smaller chamber sizes! They take no prisoners, so to speak! And of all the m/pieces I've payed for over the years (too many to mention!) the Bergs are the most correcting and I think the best investment for the music I want to play. If the modern sound is what you're after you should consider one.
