Best Bari Available

By Barisaxman5

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

The YBS-g2 is a phenomenal horn. The key action is fluid. The response is fantastic. The intonation superb. I have had mine for 15 years and would not trade it for anything. It is a great horn, very repairman friendly, and very player friendly.

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I originally purchased this instrument to play in orchestra pits at local Minneapolis area theatres. I played "low reed" part...clarinet, bass clarinet and baritone sax. The Ybs-62 was great to play...fun, good tone, responsive. It survived -20F degree temperatures, too!

I also played it in a saxophone quartet. We did not play jazz, rather, classical string quartets transcribed for saxophone quartet...soprano, alto, tenor & bari. The instrument got a lot of exposure, glad for the good intonation.

Hey, Big Nick...I grew up in Ithaca!

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I played baritone sax since age 11; nearly every brand and model- until I was coming of age in my mid-teens; my high-school let me choose what new bari-sax they were to purchase (for me to play exclusively for the three years prior to my graduation)I traveled hither and yon; I played nearly 10-12 other horns; and some were really mediocre. But without even a hesitation, the YBS-62 had me at "Y." My "baby" new was something a 15 year-old shouldn't get used to. I knew it. I sounded it, and was sad the day we had to part- knowing some other would eventually drop it, etc. It is so preciously perfect- taking the factory plastic from the horn, all the other packing, and to play its first melodious tones: priceless. Simply, this is the most consistent feeling, intonated and comfortably nimble saxophone ever made. The faint-of-heart shouldn't bother, this is the diesel locomative of the saxophones. No serious bari player can ever be credible while being dubious of this masterpiece of saxophones. Played bigband thru college & have dabbled only since- but that horn was epic, always will be.

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I bought the YBS-62 to play in a new audition only community/student wind symphony at St Petersburg College. The included mouthpiece is great, it is a bit bright for subtle playing. I did have success with the darker sound of the Caravan piece. If I have the opportunity to play in a jazz ensemble, I would use the Yamaha 5C paired with it. I bought a Van Doren harness which helped a lot with the weight.

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I loved this horn. I had played it in a school concert band. It is so easy to play, I was 12 when I played it and could get through the whole octave style no problem thanks to this horn.

Even for young players this saxophone can play smoothly and have great intonation. All volumes are easy to play in all notes.

The only thing I would have to say is it is HEAVY! Not much of a reason to not get one of these!
