I bought the Alvarez AJ60CE (Now called the AJ418C) about 5 years ago (and I LOVE it), and I bought this case to go with it. Actually this is the second case, because the first one had a latch that wasn't quite right, and wouldn't stay latched. I have taken very good care of my guitar case, which really only goes to the church and back, and the case has taken very good care of my beautiful guitar. I am very happy with this case, and I am going to purchase another shortly, because I just bought a used AJ418C-12, and I need a good case for her as well. My only complaint is the lack-luster lining which is black. I wish it were another color, say a nice Irish green. Overall, my recomendation is: Buy it, you won't regret it.

If you are expecting this to be a good fit for an Alvarez ABT60 Baritone, it is not.

At first I was going to send it back. It did not seem to fit at all. I tried again, sort of rolling it in and pushing it in flat from the top. It is a very tight fit and the padding in the case will be crushed-out before long. Do not get this case for a baritone thinking you will have a roomy, well-padded case for your guitar.

The case cover is also somewhat "racked" - that is, it does not close flush to the clasps. You'll have to give it a twist to close it.

Still, it's not expensive. It will work and give decent protection for the instrument. A different brand that truly fits the instrument will be at least in the mid-hundreds, so while I'm not really impressed, it's adequate.

I don't usually whine about this stuff, but if you're getting this for the low-cost Alvarez baritone, you need to know this.

Comments about Alvarez JC1 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar Case:

Unique cool retro looks. One of the latches was not assembled properly on mine but a small pliers and screwdriver rebent and rewrapped the tabs and corrected the problem. Some stray glue and loose fabric on the inside. Scuffs and uneven gluing on the canvas exterior and leather binding. Plywood seems weak in some spots. I don't expect the pop-riveted Alvarez tin nameplate to remain attached. Bought for an AJ80CE and with that guitar there is about an inch of space all the way around so it fits almost too loosely. I would not throw this in the truck or pile it up with other gear offstage because the materials will not stand up to any real wear or abuse. I like it for its unique looks and the AJ80CE deserves a unique case. I also have an Epiphone Jumbo with factory case and I'll match the superior Alvarez guitar with the superior Epiphone case for gigs. I like the case enough for display purposes that I bought their dreadnought model for my AD90 and I have the same comments on the Alvarez dreadnought case -- not recommended for prime time players.

    Tight Fit for Baritone Guitar

Comments about Alvarez JC1 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar Case:

I concur with the other reviewer that while this case is very cool looking, the canvas covering is marred with a plethora of small dents. You can also see glue globs and/or air bubbles underneath. But from a few feet away, it is a very cool looking case!

However, it's a very tight fit the Alvarez baritone, as some other reviewers have noted. I had to very carefully force the case closed to latch it over the guitar, and after leaving it closed for a few days it didn't seem any better so I contacted Alvarez. They maintained that this is indeed the intended case for the ABT60, and told me that it usually takes several weeks for the case to conform to the guitar, after which there are no known issues. They also offered to exchange the case under warranty, and MF also reached out to me and offered to exchange it, but there aren't a lot of options so I followed Alvcarez's recommendation.

A few weeks later I found that it does close more readily--just fine actually. The trick is to pull the lid toward you as you close it. This somehow allows the cover to close more readily in an downward fashion (which doesn't make much sense, I know, but this is the trick). So you pull it toward you, close it, latch it, and after several weeks it works just fine.

I'm giving it 3.5 stars, not for the tight fit (because that resolves itself), but due to the little marks and bubbles in the canvas. But hey, it's a case and it's gonna get dinged anyway right? Still looks cool from a couple feet away!

      Find Another Case

Comments about Alvarez JC1 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar Case:

All I can say that is good about this case is that it is nice-looking. The latches (just 4, without one on the back) were flimsy and weak, and in general the construction was inferior. The main reason I cannot commend this case: it comes advertised as fitting all Alvarez Jumbo guitars. It certainly does not fit mine. The case is way, way, too big on the inside, and so the guitar has lots of space to jostle & bounce around in. I sent it back to MF (also because it came damaged in shipping) & now have an Epiphone case that is clearly of superior construction, has better latches, more padding, and is a perfectly tight and well-cushioned fit for my Alvarez Jumbo. If you have an Alvarez Jumbo guitar, get something else to keep it in.

I purchased this for my Alvarez ABT60 baritone. It fits as snug as a bug in a rug. Not to worry that the case is too small, it fits nicely.

Comments about Alvarez JC1 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar Case:

I bought this case for my alvarez barritone. I should have read the other reviews, as I agree on a few things. I almost sent the case back because I thought the guitar didn't fit. I tried a second time because I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning- I wedged it in tightly! I imagine the flexible case offers little more protection than a gig-bag, but I only travel a bit and will mostly use the case for storage and humidity control.
The neck supports aren't screwed in correctly (a few miss completely). I plan on modifying the case a bit so it will hold the neck properly. As it is now , the neck rests on the storage box rather than the curved cut brace. I'm certain it will deny the neck I used this way heavily.
