I own some analysis plus speaker cables (shotgun bi-amp setup), power cords and interconnects. I have always been very pleased with the performance of these cables and the price of this cable made it an obvious choice for me and I have not been disappointed. I have a takamine acoustic electric with cool tube and a small genz benz shenandoah amp. For me a great setup.

What another reviewer describes in his review is exactly what you would expect when a cable with lower capacitance is delivering a wider frequency range to a tube amp. The folks at Analysis Plus are not trying to "tame harsh high end!" There are no tone controls built into guitar cables! However, a tube head has an inherently interdependent EQ section... when low end signal hitting the input of the head is increased, the listener's perception of the high-end will be decreased. So, the AP Black Oval is NOT attenuating the high end as another review implies, but is in fact delivering a fuller spectrum of the guitar's output to the amp, and in so doing is causing a perceived decrease in high end due to the increase in lower frequency punch.
This is why comparisons using "the same settings" are not accurate comparisons of real-world performance. This would be the same as plugging in two different three-knob overdrive boxes from different manufacturers using "the same settings" and trying to decide which one you liked based on that supposedly "clinical" trial. Nobody would do that... with any new piece of gear, you have to fiddle with the knobs of that particular unit to find its sweet spot.
What you want to do with cables is, tweak your amp settings to get the best possible sound for your ears using cable A, then do the same with cable B. If the best possible sound of cable A is better than the best possible sound of cable B, buy cable A.
Once players adjust their amps to optimally process the increased frequency response delivered by AP cables, I doubt that few would ever go back to anything of a less refined technological design. I know that since I put yellow oval jumpers on my pedal board and black ovals from guitar to pedals and pedals to amp, that my custom G&L Legend/Egnater amp combination has never sounded more articulate and punchy. But yeah, I had to slightly dial back the bass eq on the amp head, and slightly boost the high. The sound is HUGE.
The puchasing decision here comes down to whether you hear enough difference to justify the rather hefty price tag. I do for my guitar rig. For my active bass rig, I do not, as the preamp on the bass negates any capacitance issues... so when playing bass all I need is something sturdy!

I did a comparison with a 10 foot black oval against a 10 foot DiMarzio straight into a vox AC15 using a 2008 gibson les paul standard. using the same settings, the black oval gave a warmer low end, didn't give any breakup and increased the volume just slightly. I am torn however that the high end lost its chime. I'm sure in their efforts to tame harsh high ends, they must not have used a vox to test with. $60 to steal the chime of my ac15 just seems a little crazy, I'll be sticking with dimarzios until i feel like trying the next over priced cable

The Black oval delivers a sound quality that is superior to anything I have used before. I used to have Monsters Studio pro and there is no comparison. The black oval has a fuller range, the highs and lows just jump out at you. For the price you pay for the Black Oval you would have to pay 3 to 4 times as much to achieve the same type of quality sound.
