Comments about Big Bang Distribution Snare/Tom Mic Mount:
I use Audix D2 mics for my rack toms but the rim-mounted mini-gooseneck mic clips that come with them (standard model Audix DVICE) aren't ideal for my kit. Those Audix DVICE clips are great – don't get me wrong – they do a great job clamping onto a typical rim with no wing nuts to screw and lose, but the rims on the rack toms of my Gretsch 57 Renown kit don't have enough space for the clips due to their RIMS-type mount assemblies. To use those DVICE clips I have to place them outside of the rim mount zones, which basically means mounting the rack 1 mic at 9 o'clock and the rack 2 mic at 3 o'clock. Not ideal. I went and got the side-clamp versions of Audix's DVICE mini-gooseneck mic clips but that wasn't ideal either, due to the angle the goosenecks have to endure due to the side clamp... with the weight of the mics, they'd start sagging and I'd be adjusting them throughout the gig since there's no such thing as gooseneck Viagra. The product being reviewed here was the key to my solution. I use the Audix DVICE mini-goosenecks with this product and it's the best rack mount situation I've ever had. The steel bar that comes with this clip is about the same size as Audix DVICE mini-gooseneck – it isn't easy to stuff the mini-gooseneck into this clamp's hole... you have to really push hard and then screw it to get it in there, but it'll go. Because the clamp is mounted to a drum lug, there's no taking it off easily but that's okay – you don't need to. After a gig, I place my toms in their cases and just bend the mini-goosenecks down. There's just enough space in my soft cases with the lids zipped shut to have those suckers bent out of the way. No fuss, no muss. When I set up for my next gig, they're already on there – I just bend them up and they're in the perfect spot... all I have to do is pop my Audix D2 mics into them and I'm sound checking right away. Long story short: I highly recommend this product but I only use it with a mini-gooseneck mod.
