Hi,
I did not read the other reviews, yet noticed the mid-star rating. This device is excellent for finding the pace of a tune or where the director wants the tune to be with the tap function and with the options of built in sound, headphone jack, lcd screen with pendulum type graphics and red led's for gigging, it's a great tool. I use this constantly and just bought two more for my church gig where I have to keep 8 to 12 folks on cue. If you are looking for lot's of fancy rhythms and detailed sub-divisions, you'll need to spend more.
Batteries last a long. long time. Again, great tool for a drummer.

Bought this a little over a year ago, worked great for a while. Couple months back (right before a gig actually, how convenient) it started resetting itself when headphones were plugged in with the volume up. No headphones, works fine. Yes headphones, plays one beat, turns off, turns back on. It is now essentially useless. No one knows why it does this, store I got it from basically said 'yeah dude this thing is broken' and Roland/BOSS won't do anything about it. Don't buy this unless you need a paperweight that goes beep boop.

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

Do not waste your money. I can't believe boss put this junk on the market. My brother in law and myself pruchase at the same time. After a couple of months of use it the settings start reverting back to 120bpm. Also the ear phone jack stopped working and it causes it to revert back to the same beat. Do not waste your money

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

This is one of the poorest designed metronomes I've ever used - and being a pro drummer, I have used a few.
The control panel is not intuitive to use, and is hence annoying.
However, the worst thing is the design of the battery bay. To change the battery you need a small Philips-head screw driver to remove the screw (which is small and easily dropped and lost), and then a small flat-head screwdriver to prise the battery out; two small screwdrivers to change the battery?!! Come on BOSS, you can't be serious.

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

A good product. Lightweight. Clear display. Easy to use. Allows selection of meter (2/4, 4/4, 7/4, etc.). No memory. The sound is fixed (a kind of beep). I found it annoying at first (I was expecting more of a click), but I got used to it quickly. The unit has an actual volume knob which makes adjusting the volume quick and easy. Works fine for practice, probably wouldn't be very useful for live work as it does not store settings.

      Stops working after three months

      By Buenos814

      from Philadelphia

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

Nice features at first, although not nearly loud enough. Problem is that after a few months it became completely unreliable and now will not work for more than a few beats before resetting. Do not buy this unless you intend to replace on a regular basis.

      By Tama-A3WQl

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

I have had the same problem with my Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome resetting itself to 120 bpm. Someone on here recommends to change the battery, but the problem is in the earphone plug. If I take out my earphone, the unit works fine. If I plug in my earphone, and select a tempo and beat, a slight touch to the jack will reset the unit....hence it is crap....

      choose a different metronome

      By marthing3

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

I have experienced this same problem with the Boss DB-30 that many others has listed. After about 3 months, and once I was over 1500 miles from the store I purchased it at, it started to constantly reset itself to 120. I now have about 25 spare batteries for it, but even with a brand new battery it is shorting out. I'm bummed, as it's hard to find a pocket metronome with a clave feature. Oh well..

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

When it worked it was great; after a couple of months of use it turned off and on erratically. Tried replacing the batteries, but no luck. Unfortunate, as it's otherwise well-made and quite handy.

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

This metronome has great features for learning different beats. It's pretty easy to use once you figure it out. The best part is you get to buy lots of batteries for it. If it were not for this feature, I would not recomend it. If you like changing batteries, this metronome is for you!

A great metronome with handy features

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

The BOSS Dr. Beat DB-30 metronome is one of the handiest metronomes I've ever owned. It is compact, small, and fits in your pocket. The "tap" feature is very helpful when establishing the tempo for yourself or band mates. The max bpm is 250, but the DB-30 can split that into 16ths for those of us who count a little faster. In addition to 16ths, it also splits into 8ths, 3rds, and some special upbeats. It also includes a couple of clave rhythms which I don't particularly care for. I also like the time signature options. Another reason I purchased this over the cheaper Korg. Though, I would have been happier if I could set alternate time signatures such as 6/8 or 15/8. It only operates with x/4 time signatures. And lastly, the headphone jack has come in extremely useful to not bother others while practicing. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

      Not Bad As Other Say

      By Drummerboy-zJgEF

      from New York

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

I've had this metronome for the last three years and it is still working. I've read that a lot people are complaining that it reverts back to 120. It has happened to me maybe twice a year and all I do is change the battery and it works. Drummers sometimes do forget to turn the metronome off after sessions and that's what drains the battery. It has auto turn off but that's according to a timer after sitting idle. It is a great product, I highly recommend.

This metronome worked well for about three months then it only worked intermittently. I have had it for over a year now and it is pretty much worthless. It constantly resets and will not function most of the time. If I am lucky I can coax a steady beat from it for a few minutes then it randomly turns off. Save you money. It has kept me from buying any other Boss equipment. If the rest of their gear is like this I will definitely steer clear.

This metronome started strong. But shortly after it started turning off by itself. Then when you set a bpm and push the start button, it kicks back to 120 bpm. Oh, and boss will fix it for you, for $40 an hour. Just buy the Yamaha Click station and be happy.

          DB-30: Great Idea, faulty execution

          By PSUnderwood

          from northwest Connecticut

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

The Boss DB-30 metronome is a nice compact package with a good range of features. Unfortunately, after less than a month of less than strenuous use, mine stopped working. Pressing the Start/Stop button caused it to revert to a tempo of 120 and a 4 beat measure, emit a single chirp, and stop. Removing and re-installing the battery helped for a while, but the condition shortly returned. This is not useful to me, and I see I am not unique in this experience. Too bad; if it kept working, it would be a great product.

Comments about Boss DB-30 Dr. Beat Metronome:

Gets more hype than it should. It's good and as a beginner drummer, it has more functionality than I know how to use. However, it's just a little electronic device with a speaker and I think it's way over priced.I expected it to allow me to choose between the annoying beep and a nicer woodsy click but I guess it doesn't have that functionality. That being said, it's probably better than most out there. It's very compact and the interface is acceptable (i.e. I didn't have to read the directions) but I wish it had a click instead of a beep (I probably wouldn't gripe about the price if it did).

Nice features for the price, but the quality is not very good. Began going out after a few months of use and completely died after about 6 months. Spend a little more and get something of better quality. I wish I did.
