OVERVIEW

Evokes the sounds of the classic 1960s and '70s rock bands.

The Celestion G12H is a reissue of their 12" guitar speaker that was re-released in 1994 for the Celestion 70th anniversary. Loud and proud thanks to its heavy magnet structure, the G12H provides a fusion of the Vintage 30 and the Greenback speaker characteristics, producing a thick, warm and syrupy sound while still retaining a tight and focused bottom end.

When played clean the G12H remains clear and musical without ever sounding harsh. In overdrive, pick attack is vividly articulated with sustained notes trailing off into warm harmonic tones.

Celestian quality made in China

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

At the time of this posting the photo depicting the G12H 30W 70th Anniversary speaker still indicates "Ipswich England" on the label. England of course has become a legend in the speaker manufacturing industry thanks to Celestian, so you can imagine my dismay after receiving two of these speakers to find the labels missing the English stamp and displaying "Made In China" on a sticker on the side of the magnet. This may mean nothing to some but to someone like myself who tried to make it a point to buy product manufactured outside of China, this came as a disappointment although not completely surprising. I phoned Musician's Friend about it who told me what I expected to hear, this is, Celestian has two plants, one in England and one in China - both manufacturing to the same exact specs etc. I told them they should at least change the picture on this webpage. Having said that the G12H 30W DOES sound very good as I expected they would. They handle more clean power than the G12Ms do at 25W and yet are warm and punchy and overall very nicely balanced with a singing lead. I just wish my labels said merry 'ol "England" on them!!!

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Like one of the reviewers, mine is not from England. To have an image up that shows a stamp implying that it was built in England is the typical hedging. It is easy to check. Just look at the speaker at the bottom of the back and if it says '"International" in it, it is not built in England. The rating I gave it does not reflect this directly. That is, I rated it only on what it sounds like.

This speaker came with the egnater 15 watt Tweaker combo. I thought "cool". I am sorry, but the various "greenbacks" are much better, and I tested it in the egnater mentioned. This G12H is not a horrible speaker, but it is not great either when compared to the greenbacks. It may just be me, as how a thing sounds is probably 30% completely subjective.

The speaker is not a bad buy. It depends on what you currently have. But, the greenbacks are so much better.

      Monster Tone

      By Bertslocal

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I inherited a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe a few years ago, and tried some things to wake up the tone of this amp. After re-tubing it with EHX 12AX7s and Svetlana 6L6GCs, I was starting to hear good results. Then I changed the stock Eminence speaker with the G12H... and I was blown away. This driver has exceeded my expectations as far as tonal range and clarity are concerned. My Fender combo now has a very boutique sounding clean channel with plenty of headroom. The combination of the upgraded tubes and speaker give this amp an awesome, vintage-sounding overdrive. This has become my number one recording amp. Do yourself a favor, spend the cash and get the G12H. You won't be disappointed.

      Outstanding Speaker

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I recently retubed my Peavey Windsor Studio, and was left still wanting for the tone I was looking for.I decided to replace the Blue Marvel speaker with a Celestion, but was unable to get my hands on a Greenback,so I purchased a G12H 30 watt.I could not be more happy with my decision. It brought my little 20 watt tube amp to life, with the tone I was looking for.Everything in the discription of this speaker is accurate and I will not hesitate to purchase more of them when I upgrade the speakers in my 412 cabinet. They are a little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.Thanx Celestion!

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Installed in a vintage 1966 Blackface Deluxe Reverb this speaker is LOUD, warm, sparkly and has punch...My custom shop tele with Lollar pickups sounds tight and articulate, never muddy and gets great sustain without a pedal or effect...Again this speaker is LOUD...When compared with the Weber 12 F150, the Celestion has a tighter low end and a little more sparkle on the high side...Both are excellent speakers....I can see this speaker getting even better post break in.

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I recently picked up a Silver Stripe Bandit which was equipped with a Sheffield speaker. Not a bad speaker but relatively vanilla in tone.

Got my hands on a broken-in G12H30 when I bought a different amp and swapped the Sheffield for the Celestion.

I'm absolutely floored at this speaker / amp combination. Even though it's only a 30W speaker, it handles the Bandit's output exceptionally well (and I'm not cranking the Bandit to max). On the clean channel at about 4 on the dial, it's incredibly loud and there's an beautiful breakup that complements the amp's circuit. I know there will be purists out there who disagree, but the tone is frighteningly similar to a DRRI on the edge of breakup. Seriously.

I'm not partial to any manufacturer. I play what I feel brings me the best tone and functionality and believe me, this speaker with this amp is an absolute winner.

If you have a Bandit I strongly recommend giving this speaker a try.

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I have a british made G12H anniversary. It has served me well in a Laney LC30 combo, never a harsh tone when turned up loud.
Not the tightest bass, but the Laney is a cathode biased 30 watt EL84 amp with low voltages on the tubes and no negative feedback combined with a small output transformer, so that is really not expected.

I have tried the G12H in a tiny Laney cub 12r but not so well balanced. The cab is a very small and has a completely open back.

The speaker is loud and with most loud celestions with heavy magnets and a lot of midrange, they do need either a closed back cab or an open back of considerable size and construction to sound their best.
Stay above 4500 cubic inches and you are rewarded with a less boxy sound.

          G12H

          By William Shebby

          from Phoenixville, Pa

Comments about Celestion G12H Anniversary 30W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I chose the G12H along with the V30 to replace my stock Wolverine speakers in my TSL-602. A lot of people would say how "muddy" my TSL sounded with the stock speakers, but I guess I had just become accustomed to it. What a difference I noticed once the speakers were changed to the G12H / V30 pair. I play a lot of AC/DC, Maiden, Priest, Rush, Zep, and Sabbath and these speakers sound fantastic. I get a lot of clarity and a beautiful growling on the bottom end that just puts a smile on my face every time I play on the E,A & D strings. I play a Gibson Les Paul and a custom Carvin and use a Holy Grail nano reverb on the lead channel through the effects loop for solos and the sound is surreal. On my crunch channel I'm running a DynaComp straight through the front of the amp. All of these elements come together to produce the sound I've been looking for. I scored the speaker as a 9 on quality because I've only had it for about one month so far.

I used this speaker in 212 cab with a Guitar Warehouse Reaper that I also purchased from MF. The cab sounds great with all the amps I've paired it with, but I primarily use it with an Egnator Rebel 30.
