This is not the best Celestion you can buy, it's the cheapest 12 inch Celestion you can buy. I have a Peavey ValveKing VK112 combo and I replaced the stock speaker with this Rocket 50. I wanted the cheapest way to have a Celestion "British voiced" speaker. It was a bit harsh at first but I expected a break-in period and finally this speaker warmed right up to me. It can get very loud. It's not a Vintage 30 or a Classic Lead 80 but it's a real Celestion with tight lows, plenty of mids and just enough highs. I love recording this speaker with a good instrument mic. It's seems to work well with many genres. I play a Strat and an SG through it. Sounds great once it's broken in. For "British Voiced" on the cheap you can't beat it. It brought my cheap tube amp to life.

This speaker came with my Blackstar HT20 Amp. Let me say right away that in 20+ years of serious playing, I've never before changed a speaker in an amp, and was never even tempted to. After getting the Blackstar amp, I was initially going to return it. I was convinced to try installing a different speaker first, and man, oh man: the sound changed completely. The Rocket is neither articulate when playing clean, nor can it handle distortion well. Someone before me described is as a blanket over your amp, and I think that's a great way to visualize it. Stay away, unless you need a cheap replacement, or are using it for a practice amp, only.

The two good things about are: it's cheap, and it's significantly lighter than the Celestion Vintage 30, which replaced it.

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 50W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I highly recommend these to ANYONE!! I have a 4x12 cab with these in it, and I've played everything from blues to thrash with it, and they sound Killer!! Produce Excellent highs, Awesome mids, and Heart-Stopping Lows!! I have a 6505 sitting atop my cab, and the bottom-end will literally shake the house during practice. I have been using the same cab, with the same speakers, playing on average 8 hours a week, for 5 years! Never encountered a problem. The only comment I'm going to make, is I recommend using a High-End Cable to patch your head into your cab. I feel that a lot of bad reviews could have been avoided if the user had spent a few extra bucks for a decent cable. A cheap cable can make even the world's greatest speaker, or amp sound bad!!

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 50W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I installed 4 of these 16 ohms Rockets in a bottom B cab thats I completely re-done over, new wire, casters, Marshall speaker plate that's wired to switch to 16 mono or 8 & 4 sterio ohms.I bought these without ever hearing them but I did read reviews before buying them. These speakers were apparently suppose to be a better mid ranging sound speaker according to sound skamatic diagrams done on them. After installing them I decide to install a 4" layer of fiberglass on the back pannel of the cabinet to help with lower frequency responce...This works really well and actually made the speakers sound much deeper than the A cab I have sitting on top of it, which is an actual 1960 Lead cab loaded with g12T-75.I'm not entirely impressed with these speakers in the sence that they lack top end crisp sound I was hoping to get but I think it's because of the head I am using, Soldano Hot Rod 50 plus. For the price these are a great choice and will do mids very well but if your looking for a crispier sound they aren't the ones...

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 50W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

My review title is lame, but "wow" is all I can say every time I plug into this speaker. I have a Crate V series tube amp purchased on clearance. In trying to get inspiration from that amp I've tried numerous speakers (all of which look more impressive than this Rocket, and cost more). But all to no avail. I'd lost hope in my clearance amp, but MF had a screaming sale on these Rockets and since they're Celestions I had to at least try one.Wow! My amp was just waiting for me to put this speaker in it. I can't believe the change. It now has a clean sound that rivals my Fender Tweed. The overdrive channel sings and I even have pick dynamics!THANK YOU Musician's Friend!

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 50W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

This speaker came stock with my Line 6 Spider II 30 watt combo. Both the amp and speaker are of Chinese manufacture; I hadn't really considered this when I purchased the amp but thankfully so far I've had no issues or misgivings. As far as the speaker is concerned, it seems more than adequate for the job -- the Spider II 30 is quite a loud little beast, and the Rocket 50 takes everything it has to throw at it. I'm surprised at the amount of low end that the speaker is capable of generating, but the highs tend to grate a bit and the mid frequencies could be a bit more pronounced. The sensitivity of the Rocket 50 is only about 95.5 dB...not loud, but also not as anemic as some Jensen models out there. For what you pay, this speaker seems a good value.

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 50W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I have a Crate V18-12 that was a very dark and lifeless sounding amp. I did two things to it recently that made it a much better sounding amp. I put a Groove Tube 12AU7 in the phase inverter slot and replace the stock speaker with the Celstion Rocket 50. I replaced the speaker first and I'll give the speaker about 25% of the credit and this tube the other 75% for making my amp sound 100% better.

The speaker and tube change improved everything - brightened it, added more clean headroom, added definition and harmonics and improved the sound when using my Bad Monkey distortion pedal.

I built a custum 1x12 for my brothers Valve junior amp, and I needed a cheap speaker. Tried this one out and loved it. Very loud, I ran my Peavy 100watt head through and had no trouble. I'm buying two more for a 2x12 to stick under my peavey. Very nice!

This speaker is ok. With the right amp and cab Im sure it sounds nice, but it is a bit harsh. This sounds nothing like a vintage 30 if thats the sound your going for. Overall, harsh highs, tight but quiet lows, buzzy mids. Still a quality speaker, not the right sound for me.

Bought two of these for my custom 2x12 cabinet. Using my Marshall Lead head sounds excellent. The stock Marshall gain set all the way up gave a great tone. Very much like a very overdriven Greenback. I truly believe these speakers are the best of all worlds. Great for blues to metal!!

I put two of these speakers in a sealed back extension cabinet for a Fender Mustang III and they work very well. In this application the Rocket 50's performed very well and the harshness sometimes attributed to these speakers does not seem to come through with this cabinet. I've also used this cabinet with my 78 Music Man with the same result. I have performed and rehearsed with both these rigs and had no trouble or negative feedback for the Rocket 50's.

Now obviously these are not top of the line speakers. But that being said, they work and sound just fine in the right application. And can give you good results for a budget price. I would recommend the Rocket 50's to anyone.

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 50W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I have purchased four of these speakers for use in a couple of birch plywood cabinets, with a 2X12 baffle, similar to the Pre-CBS Fender Bandmaster cabinet. The plywood responds much better than MDF, and it weighs much less. Probably works just as well in a pine cabinet. Since I no longer have any 4X12 cabinets, I can not offer any information, but, I have a positive feeling about using these Celestions in this type of cabinet. I have tested these speakers with a number of different amplifiers, all tube, and find that they work well, even better than the stock speakers. These are not inexpensive tube heads, and the one that I am using the two cabinets with, is a Fender Super amp head from the mid 1990's. The amp was originally in a 4X10 combo, but, the cabinet was damaged beyond repair after it fell off of the back of a truck. The amplifier still worked, so, it was installed in a Fender style head enclosure, after the local amp technician worked on it, which included new tubes, and a different power chord. Fender rated the amplifier at 65 watts with 8 ohm speakers. That has to be taken into consideration, and one should check out which configuration works for an 8 ohm output. Speaker installation is simple, in an existing cabinet. Be sure that speakers are wired to the cross-over identically. Just use the existing fasteners, that are installed, already. The frame of the speaker is sturdy, but, be careful not to damage the cone, otherwise, your new speaker(s) will be useless. The two cabinets were sealed with porting, front loading, so I can not say how the speakers will sound in an open back cabinet. In a closed cabinet, the speakers perform very well. Even though they are inexpensive, consider that they are genuine Celestions, and have better quality control than some other speaker manufacturers. This is not a slur against Emminence, but directed toward cheap imports. Some of these imports are more expensive than these Celestion speakers, even though these speakers are manufactured overseas, but, with strict requirements.
