I play my instruments stock, meaning I don't change nothing physical but strings. I've wasted too much money on the instrument manufacturer's string brand and effort and self-doubt entered in. After a week those strings felt like rubber bands. Got the Chromes medium stock set yesterday and my playing is back! They're huge on sound, tone but they allow me to play fearless and fearless is what this professional bassist is all about.

MF occasionally uses my old billing and shipping info. Even after confirming that they have removed this from their computers. So the strings went to an old address and had to be forwarded to me. This I will try again to rectify with their customer service which is normally very good.
Strings are excellent and if you play fretless I would suggest these over anything else out there....even the ones costing three times as much.

Great Flats For Round Users!

Comments about D'Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium Bass Strings:

I was a hardcore rounds-only user - until I tried these.

If you properly EQ your bass/amp you can get that classic "round" tone you want with none of the annoying string squeak, etc. that are so annoying, but unavoidable with rounds. Yeah, amazing but true. All the tone/sonic qualities of rounds with all the advantages (easier-on-fingers, less wear and tear on frets, etc.) of flats.

Works especially well with active basses. Also, works great by using a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal to help shape the sound

Comments about D'Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium Bass Strings:

Honestly, I was doing some recording and needed new bass strings for my 2002 Lefty Fender Jazz Bass (Mex) and had bought the D'Addario in a medium brights as recommended to me and I hated them. Other users had great things to say about the Chromes so I thought I'd give them a try. If your goal is to hear the bass sound and not string movement or the string making contact with the fret, these are your strings. I can't get enough! So smooth sounding! Very rich! Absolutely perfect, I'll never try/buy any other set! You will not be disappointed!

Comments about D'Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium Bass Strings:

I have been using these for years and they haven't let me down. I just recently replaced a set I have had on my bass for years. I only replaced it because we are in the recording process and I felt my tone was lacking a little from the ancient strings. The new set feels great, but They will really start to shine after the newness wears off in a week or so.

Been using D'Addario bass strings since 1980. Won't use anything else. Fat tone. These strings don't go dead ever. The flatwounds are thunderous and punchy. Want a sixties vibe? These are the strings.

Strings are like playing style, there is no perfect one for everybody but for me, they are all that I use. These flat chromes are like my favorite bass, I may try something different but I always know what I have waiting that I can count on. My jazz bass with these chrome flats. I play everything from oldies, classic, southern rock, country, blues. With a little tone tweaking, you can get the sound you are after. These strings also produce the best sustain that I have ever found.

Comments about D'Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium Bass Strings:

They have a great sound expecially for flatwounds. With tone adjustment you can use these strings for about anything. Zero fret and finger wear. Last forever. FYI: On an American Jazz with Leo Quan BAB III bridge using string through the wrapping will not always clear the nut. 50/50 chance. I'm switching to the SL version of the same strings.

These are extremely easy to play. no more hurt fingers! I love thick and heavy gauge strings, but they hurt after playing them all night. not anymore! I use a Fender Jazz bass w/ quarterpounder jazz pup's going into a cranked Sunn Model T and it sounds perfect! buy them and forget you ever played anything else!

I use these strings on a Fender P, and the sound i get is incredible. It still has that fat p tone, but it is very warm and mellow. I play a lot of Jamerson, and I'm in the jazz band, and these strings are perfect for both.

Comments about D'Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium Bass Strings:

I have played flatwound strings on my 6 string electric guitars before and didn't care for them. So I was reluctant to try these, but I'm sure glad I did. I love the smooth low tone of the .105, but I really love the .50 G string that actually sounds like it is a bass string. If you like to play your bass to help drive the beat, along with the drums, this is your set. They may not be for everyone, because they probably aren't as responsive for slapping or popping. I also like them for low volume practicing because of the reduced finger noise. I recommend everyone try these and decide for yourselves.

Comments about D'Addario ECB82 Chromes Flatwound Medium Bass Strings:

I play blues and also accompany 2-3 guitars and a piano for the Sunday Guitar Mass. On my Peavey Foundation, roundwounds have a little too much finger noise and growl for the music I play so I tried these flatwounds for a smoother, more mellow sound and boy did I get it! I was afraid of losing all sustain and getting a muted, thumpy sound but these strings have a wonderful, warm, subdued sustain. Not dead at all! The fact that these strings are smooth as glass is just icing on the cake. One word of warning: the string wrappings are a little thick. The hole for the E-string on my stock Peavy Foundation bridge is too small for the last 3 inches of E-string. I used a razor blade to cut and peel away most of the wrapping and was able (with difficulty) to get the string all the way through. Your mileage may vary.

I've used ernie ball slinkys for the past two years because they always stayed in tune. But I recently bought these looking to get a better tone. When I played them for the first time, my fingers would have _____ if they could. (dont want to use the actual word). But seriously these strings have the greatest feel and tone ever. I would definitely reccomend some one to get these.

I had used these strings for a long time (they were originally intended to mellow out my old cheap bass rig), and I finally convinced myself that I should use some semi rounds to try to open up my sound possibilities. I had them on for about a day before I had had enough and went back to these. Great strings, sound great on any rig (I use GK 1001RB-II and GK MB 150E), and are great for a lot of different styles.

These are very good sounding strings. The only problem I have with them is that they're about a half inch too short. The blue thread doesn't go all the way past the nut on my Reissue Fender 51 P Bass. But this is not a problem. I'll just get the Super Long Scale next time.
I marked the value down because they're pretty expensive.

I bought these strings because all that I had ever used were rounds but I wanted a change. When I first got them they were very slow and I could not play fast with them at all. And if it is your first set of flats they will be slow for you too. But now that I have actually gotten used to em' there faster than rounds. They make slides so much easier and I have written some really cool songs with lotsa slides but no finger pain. I would strongly recomend these strings to everyone. At least try them and see how you like them like I did. Chances are, you'l like them too.
