D'Addario Chrome Extra Light Electric Guitar Strings are revered for their warm tone and ultra-smooth feel. Stainless steel underwindings on hex cores build a foundation for the delicate outer ribbon winding. After the winding is applied, each string goes through 3 polishing steps. Great for classic jazz tone and rockabilly twang.

D'Addario's environment-friendly string packaging does away with the nylon plastic outer envelope, paper insert, and paper envelopes for each string. The strings come inside a 100% recyclable cardboard package that inhibits string corrosion.

D'Addario environmental string sets are now being made with new, brighter colored ball ends. The colored ball ends are specially coated with a new paint (green, red, purple...) that is easily recognizable and makes it even easier for you to identify each string.

I love theses strings, I have them on a strat, tele and a jazzmaster style guitar, they sounds great on all of them, on the tele and JM, it really has that twangy Cash clickity-clack sound, and flip it to the neck for a silky smooth tone. And a perfect middle sound. And no finger noise! 2 tricks i've learned with flatwounds, don't cut the string until you have tuned up to pitch (helps prevent it from unraveling, been there done that!) and don't stretch the strings, or at least not much, they will break easier than rounds when stretching, especially the wound 3rd string. Great strings!

THis is the first time I ever used flatwound strings. Was taking my time putting them on and this guitar never broke a string before. I was tuning from the little e up to the bid E and on the A string it broke first attempt. It broke close to the tuning peg so I was able to salvage the set by tuning the A string to pitch using the big E tuning peg. I really like the sound of them. This semi hollow body has hot pickups and was want to mellow it out some and these strings worked as the company said they would and I was very happy with that. A break could happen with any string company so I'm not ticked and will buy them again.

Comments about D'Addario ECG23 Chrome Extra Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I initially started using on my electric (plug in single pick-up)hollow body arch-top due to trigger finger pain. However, now that I have fixed that(surgery), I continue to use. Bottom line-ease of play-ability.I play mostly jazz/swing chord back up for vocals. I have received numerous compliments on the sound of the guitar(Eastman). My experience-once you are amplified, string thickness is less a factor in sound quality. But they feel like butter. No effort. Take that flat 5ths and sharped 9ths. Half diminished 7th's? No problem. I would not suggest using for acoustic only as they lack power there. But for electric-they are my go-to.

Comments about D'Addario ECG23 Chrome Extra Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I'm primarily a fingerstyle guitarist, but lack the strength in my hands to play so pronounced as some of my idols (Big Bill Broonzy, Brownie McGhee, Rev. Gary Davis, etc.). These strings are much kinder to my hands than round-wound strings, and even though they are extra light gauge, they retain their tone better than the acoustic bronze strings that are the same gauge. Along with that, I love the mellow tone they produce when plugged in. Really adds a distinct tone to my Ibanez Talman, esp. when playing guitar rags or jazz. If you are ready to try flatwound strings, these are relatively inexpensive, while being impressively long-lifed!

Comments about D'Addario ECG23 Chrome Extra Light Electric Guitar Strings:

My band (guitar, bass, drums) plays a lot of twangy surfy instrumentals. Chromes help me nail the plunky surf guitar sound. They last so long that I've started keeping track of when I restring, so I remember to change them at least every six months. I use 10's on one guitar and 11's on the other and replace the wound G string with a plain string of the same guage. I wish they came that way as an option. I've been using Chromes since 2007.

Sure beats a second mortgage to finance Pyramid's, or Thomastics!! Just substitute a .016 Plain for the .020 wound, and you're GREAT to go!

I have played for quite a few years, but only for my own pleasure. These strings are quiet. They do not generate finger noise as conventional wound strings do.

I love D'Addario Chromes. Super smooth, no fret noise, and that great flatwound tone. You can go years between string changes with these, so they're an incredible value. I have bought other flats that were three times the price and these are just as good. Highly recommended!

Out of the pack these strings sounded great. I was a bit worried that they would be muddy but they aren't at all. Better resonance and sustain than the EB reg slinkys I normally use, and seem to be much slower in building up corrosion.
