As described on the package, these are primarily jazz guitar strings. I play a Benedetto Manhattan Custom 7 that was originally strung with round-wound 12-72 strings. After going through a few sets, I was looking for a slightly lighter feel and mellower sound. The typical 7-string sets with unwound third strings and lowest strings in the 50s felt like rubber bands and did not produce the sound I wanted. D'Addario chrome flat wound strings have the sound I want while allowing a relatively low action without buzzing. The strings start out mellow and hold their tone throughout most of their life. They will eventually sound dull (not necessarily a bad thing - listen to Tal Farlow). When intonation begins to suffer, it's time to replace them. I do not recall breaking a string.

The majority of my playing is finger-style in the George Van Eps tradition and these strings are great for that application as well as comping and single-string work. They sound great purely acoustically as well as amplified.

If bending notes is a major feature of your style, you probably will not be happy with these strings. If you are fortunate enough to own a seven-string jazz guitar and want a classic jazz sound, these strings will suit your instrument and style of playing quite well. They are practically the only game in town unless you prefer piecing together sets from individual strings.

I just bought a few sets of these strings for my 7 string to try something new. I'm really disappointed because these things are not at all what I need. The good thing about them is that they are very smooth to the touch and shiny as hell. However they lack what counts most, tone. These things have absolutely no brightness to them at all. They have a really mellow sound that compared to the strings I'm used to seems totally lifeless. When I went to the D'Addario website I found out that the Chromes are the mellowest sounding strings they make compared to the other series and I really wish I'd known that before buying them cause they are very expesive. Buyer beware.

    7 string chrome flatwounds

    By TheGuy--Listen to Seed!

Comments about D'Addario ECG24-7 7-String Chrome Flat Wound Electric Guitar Strings:

very smooth strings. virtually no scratch noise when you slide your fingers down them. although, that also means pick scrapes don't come out very well on these, which doesn't matter to me because i dont play anything that has them. i don't find them to be as mellow as advertised; they have a well balanced tone. a little more resistant for bending than other strings. love the big fat b string and wound g...i find if you're playing a 7 string it really helps to have a thick b. definitely going to be my string of choice for a while.

    Best 7 String Set

Comments about D'Addario ECG24-7 7-String Chrome Flat Wound Electric Guitar Strings:

This is one of the best set of strings I've ever used on my (or any of my friend's) 7 string. You don't notice it at first, but when you go from playing these strings to a normal pair, you'll never go back. I can honestly say; these are the SOFTEST/smoothest strings I've ever used.

    Nice Stings

Comments about D'Addario ECG24-7 7-String Chrome Flat Wound Electric Guitar Strings:

I use a Marshall 1960A 4x12 cab (with T-75 speakers). Using these strings, it's a nice balance due to the fact that this particular cab tends to run a bit bright and with these strings, it dulls the sound just enough, complementing the cab. I use them with a 7 string and I love em... They are worth the try...

    The Perfect Solution for me.

    By DeathGrind

    from Libertyville, IL

Comments about D'Addario ECG24-7 7-String Chrome Flat Wound Electric Guitar Strings:

I was having a problem with my new amp and the pick scraping attack sound I was getting. It was way too much grind to the point that the note couldn't be heard while playing fast tremolo picked palm mutes. I re-evaluated everything and tried different picks and different picking techniques. These strings are the perfect solution to lessen the grind. I could see how most metal guitarists would hate these strings, but I use tortex picks, hold the pick funny, and play very hard. My amp and pickups also have a ton of attack, it's the ENGL Savage 120 and EMG 81. So these are now my string of choice, the downside with these is that my clean sound suffers. The bright switch and EQ on my amp's clean channel can compensate enough to make it acceptable. These strings fool cool and I like the fact that they're nice to my frets. They are harder to bend and tremolo and they are a little expensive but to me it's the only option so I will continue to purchase them.

Comments about D'Addario ECG24-7 7-String Chrome Flat Wound Electric Guitar Strings:

i bought these strings a few days ago and immediatly threw them onto my tele. they were lacking the brightness associated with a normal round wound string but added a fullness and ease of play to my guitar. when sliding the smoothe surface feels great and chromes dont squeak when you are moving around the neck. on any other guitar i would be careful with these strings if a bright sound is what youre after. for some reason they seem harder to bend than other .10's but they are a dream to play and are at least worth a try

The smoothest, quietest strings I've ever used. Better than Fender and Gibson flat wounds by far.

I play seven-string guitars exclusively and have found no string that comes near it. All other strings are practically the same, these stand out.

    Great Jazz Strings

    By The Ted

    from Colorado Springs, CO

Comments about D'Addario ECG24-7 7-String Chrome Flat Wound Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing these strings on my guitar for just over a year. At this point I can say I'm very pleased. I love the rich mellow "golden" tone I get from my guitar. I play an Ibanez As193 (335 clone) with authentic '57 PAF humbuckers. They sound great, and the feel of the flat wounds is like butter.
