Comments about D'Addario ESXL120 Nickel Double Ball End Super Light Electric Guitar Strings:
To FranticCity's comment: I concur that these strings sound terrific. The fact remains that the high E string is too short for headless-guitar players using anything BUT a TransTrem. For those of us who are using other headless-system bridges - Steinberger's S-Trem and R-Trem - as well as the new and superb J-Custom / Headless Research bridges, D'addario has left us hanging. Why not design a string that will work with the many other fine Steinberger and Steinberger-style bridges out there ?
Why confine your product so that it's useable only to a small subset of an already small niche of players ( the headless-guitar folks ) ?

Comments about D'Addario ESXL120 Nickel Double Ball End Super Light Electric Guitar Strings:
These strings are designed for Steinberger Transtrem systems that is why the high e string is shorter than a normal double ball system.
These strings do exactly what they are supposed to do. They sound better than any other make for their designed purpose.
Comments about D'Addario ESXL120 Nickel Double Ball End Super Light Electric Guitar Strings:
Love the quality of these fine strings, dis-like the short high E that I have to jack from another non double ball set. For this it gets a five.
double ball, ease of use
Great quality as always minus the high E string. It is maybe 1/4 inch too short??????? Why????? I have tio take the saddle all the way out to get it in the saddle. This is uncalled for from a company that I have always used on my 20 plus guitar collection. I have been using D'addario strings for almost 30 years and still do but cannot now for the double ball.
due to the short high E string and sick of chancing the saddle getting stripped, I cannot use these anymore. All strings work great but we need 1/4 inch more the the high E.
Comments about D'Addario ESXL120 Nickel Double Ball End Super Light Electric Guitar Strings:
So why am I giving these Steinberger D'addarios such a low rating ? One simple reason: the string length of the high E is incorrect about 1/2" too short to easily get into the bridge-saddle claw. You might be able to do it if you unscrew the saddle to the point of detaching from the fine-tuner, but you then run the risk of stripping the threads as you try to re-tighten. So when using these, I've had to discard the high E and then cannibalize inferior-sounding string sets from GHS / LaBella / MusicYo at least their high E's will fit ! I should mention that with the new J-Custom retrofit Steinberger-replacement headpieces from Headless Research, this is all a moot point, as the J-Custom accomodates single-ball as well as double-ball strings. Another point is that the D'addarios may very well fit perfectly on a Steinberger TransTrem tremolo. I have a MusicYo Steinberger with an R-Trem and a custom-made headless instrument made by Paul Morley of Fretsong.com with an S-Trem. The too-short high E is a problem with the R- and S-Trems.
The strings themselves have the same wonderful tonal qualities as regular D'addario EXL120's, but the high E is too short for the 25.5" scale.
First, let me preface that I absolutely LOVE D'addario's single-ball end EXL120 strings; won't use anything else. The double-ball end version has the exact same properties I appreciate as the "normal" ones: crisp, beautiful tone, silky feel, and durability.

At the price per set, it's unacceptable to have to discard one out of six strings per set and then hunt around for inferior-sounding strings from other vendors, as a replacement.
