I recently bought a Carvin SH550, paid a lot for this custom guitar. I was so tickled when it came in. I plugged it in, tuned it up and played. I was disappointed, didn't sound right. Tried playing with settings on my amp, tone controls, etc. Just wasn't right... sounded out of tune, I couldn't figure it out, because intonation was dead on, it has locking tuners... After a couple of weeks of wondering if I just got a lemon somehow, I re-strung with a set of D'Addario EXL 110w's I had in my Telecaster case. Buddy, that was the secret! The guitar sounds, plays like I knew it should... The wound G holds better tune. The fact that it doesn't bend like some guitarists want makes it hold better tune if you don't fret it precisely right, I guess that's it. I should also say that I'm primarily an acoustic player, maybe the wound G feels better. I definitely like the tonal characteristics better when chording, and I play mostly rhythm. But even when I'm running scales or picking little licks, the wound G sounds great. I will never go to another set of strings again. I'm sold.
The wound third (G) on this set is the key feature, and it makes a big difference to the overall tone. It also solved a bothersome tuning problem.
I've been very satisfied with the life of these strings. I seldom break one, they keep bright tone for a long time. Just wipe 'em down after every performance and you'll probably double the string life. They may not last as long as treated/coated strings, but the other factors make these my strings of choice.
I hope D'Addario makes these available in bulk sets soon. Until then I'll pay the low price a set for individual sets, still a bargain. Even in the stores they're one of the best values on the shelf.

PRS no Fender yes..............

Strings are to light to get the heavy tones on a PRS through a tube amplifier but work well on a Fender Stratocaster.

Comments about D'Addario EXL110W Nickel Regular Light Wound 3rd Electric Guitar Strings:

If you've had problems keeping the G String in tune on medium-light strings (10's), fear no longer. These have all of the tone of regular XL's and the wound third keeps it all tightly tuned. I use some bigtime bends on the G with my hard rock music and have no issues.I've read that some people have a problem bending a wound third. Maybe I just have caveman hands...I highly recommend these strings.

Comments about D'Addario EXL110W Nickel Regular Light Wound 3rd Electric Guitar Strings:

The best strings I can get, 10/46, with a wound third. I am an old school finger picker who has always had trouble keeping the G (third) string to hold tuning, with the unwound G. Probably me but I really prefer the wound third string.
I am just happy that D'Addario is still making them and that Musician's Friend is still offering them. Thanks Musician's Friend.

Comments about D'Addario EXL110W Nickel Regular Light Wound 3rd Electric Guitar Strings:

Other than bending I don't know why anyone would want a set of strings with an unwound "G" string. These strings help make that transition from the wound to unwoumd strings on your fretboard effortless and much smoother sounding. Any difference in playing a wound from an unwound "G" is quickly overcome so why deal with that brash twangy out of tune sounding unwound "G". This may strictly be my preference but I know a lot of players making the switch. I sure am happy I did. Great string!

I have been using these strings for years and they do not disappoint. I use them on my Gibson SG and on my Fender telecaster. Like everyone says the transition from low to high is much less drastic and sounds fantastic thanks to the wound 3rd. Pick up a set, you won't be disappointed.

These things are fantastic, I'd happily pay twice as much for them.

Got a set of these after using D'Addario EXL110s (10p) on my Ibanez AF55 for a few months. Loved them, strings seemed to last forever, despite frequent tuning changes. I actually changed the last set just so I could try out the EXL110Ws.

Wow. The little third string, less than half a millimeter in diameter, feels great. It even stays in tune a little better. I personally prefer the sound of wound strings to plain, so having an extra wound string is like a bowl of ice cream with every chord.

Just updating what has already been said. I will not be going back to an unwound G. The sound transition from 3-4-5 is so smooth now, it's like having a new guitar. A pure nickel set would be nice.

It seems it is getting harder to find sets of strings that have a wound G string. I feel the would 3rd string is a must for Jaguars & Mustangs, or any short scale guitar.
