Guitar: heavily customized MIM Strat. Was playing in standard E dropped D then went to standard D dropped C. Needed to tighten that C so decided to purchase the EXL116s. Took a little getting used to but bingo, problem solved.
I always loved D'Addario strings. Still do.

Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
D'Addario XL strings are well-known for their consistency, intonation, value, and this set is no different.
Double the life and double the tone. Optimized for standard tuning and detuning, these strings suit the tunings I like from standard to C# standard tuning.
These make my lightweight Basswood Jackson guitar sound so much better!
D'Addario XL 11-52's for life!!!
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
I recently tried these on my 24.75" and they're great. 75% of the time I'm tuned E flat and 25% of the time I'll used drop D or open D tuning . I found the low E string too flabby for when I used EXL115's (11-49) or any gauge that were lighter than 11-50. The higher plain strings seem a little to loose for my taste when in DGCFAD tuning and are a little too stiff for E standard, but sound great. These are a great hybrid gauge, try 'em out if you get a chance.
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
See above.
D'Addario strings are the most consistent strings I 've found to date. I'm pretty diligent in regard to maintaining my gear so wiping the strings down my special string cleaning juice keeps my D'Addario strings bright and true.
Best string ever IMHO.
@ $3.05 per set from MF you cannot go wrong!
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
I use these strings on my ESP LTD F-250 and they sound awesome. I play anything from Children of Bodom to Cradle of Filth... These strings provide great sustain and are highly playable. They stay in tune very well, even when I abuse the floyd rose. I have to replace them about once a month, even though I play a lot. I am in a band and we play a lot of shows. I've never had one of these strings break on me, even when they're old. I just change them when they start to feel loose.
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
I bought 2 packs of these strings about 6 months ago and they are great and smooth. Though they say they are made for standard and drop tunings, they sound great in standard and drop D but in drop C it wasnt that great, the sound for me wasnt clear and bright enough tone, just because the strings i had on before these were amazing and sounded pro like and I'm still just use to those. Overall great strings for standard and drop D.
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
Before checking out D'Addario, I'd been hunting specific gauges and quality for a long time. Mixing and matching sets is not easy on the wallet, let alone yourself when you've got a gig fast approaching. These strings are perfect for what I need in a set, especially if you play as hard as I do. Never once have I broken one, and they do take a real hammering (in standard tuning). If you're looking for strength, tone, playability and affordability, buy these now, before I buy yours for you.
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
I LOVE DAddario strings, i was trying to find good strings to play Drop B in, these work very well, BUT the .52 is a LITTLE to loose, so i think ima have to go to ernie ball and get custom sized strings, id say these strings would be the BEST for C# standard.
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
These are the best strings I have ever used. Over the last 11 years I have tried earnie ball slinkys, ghs boomers and recently elixers, and these are definitely the way to go. If you only play cleans 100% of the time then there are other good ones too, but these strings soud the best to me for overdriven and distorted tones. They have the most vibrant tone I've found on the lower strings.
Comments about D'Addario EXL116 XL Electric Guitar Strings Medium Top/Heavy Bottom:
First of all, D'addario strings are where its at. That said, these strings are great. I was using EXL115's before in drop C, and the low C was a little too loose when doing fast triplets. Found out about these bad boys and was sold. They give that little bit extra tension, while not getting too thick and tight. Having the high strings the same tension helps keeping the feel of solos and higher fills. Only problem I had was I had to play with my bridge a tiny bit to adjust the action, now everything is sweet. Worth a try and a buy.
