I've used D'Addarios 9-42 before, but being a long-time EB user, I decided to buy these strings. The tone is just flat. The bass-strings has a muffled low-end, and the treble strings has too much upper-mids (not in a musically pleasant way). It is sonically unbalanced across the board. It may sound good in certain amps, but for a Marshall or Marshall clones, the strings are just horrid. The strings feels like they're in their breaking point when doing bends. When my amp's master volume is raised up to 4, ear fatigue ensues. D'Addario is definitely not my cup of tea.

Comments about D'Addario EXL120 Nickel Super Light Electric Guitar Strings (10-Pack):

Switched to D'Addario strings years ago after realizing they were one of the brands that returned my floating bridge to the same point with every re-string. Was a firm believer in 10's, but now once again having a floating-bridge guitar these 9's are the ticket!

I have used these strings for the past 20 years on everything from Kramers, Esp's, Charvels, etc to Ovation acoustic/electrics and have never been dissatisfied with the EXL120s. Here's a testament to D'Addario's great customer service...the last ten pack I purchased, I had mysteriously broken seven out of the ten .009 E strings during regular string changes. I sent them a courtesy email just to let them know they may have had an issue with this particular lot#, and within one week I had 10 new .009 E strings in my mailbox....now THAT is customer service. I will never buy another brand!

These are good strings. I've been gigging since the '80s, and I've used about everything out there. These strings are great all-around, and they don't cost like the super neodymidium/titanium oxygen-free dolphin-friendly individually hand-forged nerd strings that will NOT make your playing not stink, regardless of what the guy at the music store says. If you can play, these strings will not let you down. They last a long time, and are strong for bending.
