I always play D'Addarios because they're always corrosion free out of the package & I never break them.Light Top Heavy Bottom means they are NOT a balanced set.10s on top are for reasonable bending ease.If you play predominantly "cowboy" open chords, I would recommend 10-46 instead. These 52 heavy bottoms will make open chords sound a little strange. However if you play predominantly power chord rhythm & play with a moderate amount of picking hand force, these strings are definitely for you. Their tone is very similar to 10-46 with the exception of some low-end frequencies that are either not present or barely perceivable at all on lighter strings. Heavy bottom is like adding a subwoofer to your strings to enhance that low end that shakes your body.If you play anything from commercial power-pop to heavy metal, there is a good chance these are the strings you have been looking for, & you may even find a low end that you didn't even know you were missing!

Comments about D'Addario EXL140 Nickel Light Top/Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings:

I've used dadderio strings for years. I worked at a music store and tried pretty much every type and or brand of strings and stick to dadderio exclusively. They are consistent to every set, last a long time, give a GREAT tone and just feel soft and smooth under your fingers. Unlike other brands, they dont feel like theyre sanding your fingers when you slide. This set I've been using for awhile now and they feel amazing. Good chunky tone while being tight. Great for heavier music like metal, detunings, and anything else. I play anything from blues, classic rock all the way to punk and extremely heavy metal on these. Good buy.

Comments about D'Addario EXL140 Nickel Light Top/Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings:

I used these strings with my singlepickup Archtop. They sound pretty good unplugged, a usable sound that may be mic'd depending on the desired sound. When they were brand new they created a strange distortion similar to the scratchy sound when a low-quality cable is moved around when plugged in to an amplifier. This may have been due to the high, bright output of these new strings. I mainly bought these to play in straight fourths tuning (EADGCF)for the jazz stuff I do. These strings, when tuned as I do, feel like a standard set of 12's which is what I personally like. Definitely a good product that I will be buying again.

Comments about D'Addario EXL140 Nickel Light Top/Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings:

I have a 50's CIJ Telecaster Bigsby with a mustang bridge that would buzz somewhere in the bride area, which sort took the enjoyment out of playing it. Getting these strings was my last hope. After I strung them with these strings, the buzzing completely stopped. It been a few weeks now and there's still no issue.

    The Best strings ever made.

    By MaestroMichael

    from Chicago IL

Comments about D'Addario EXL140 Nickel Light Top/Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings:

I have been using these strings for...I'd say at least a year or two now, and they have never failed. Brand new, the tone (I think) is fantastic. They are nice and bright, but not too bright. And even aged after a while they sound great. They do warm up a bit with use, but that's completely ok with me, as they sound fantastic.I have never broken a string. I have only changed them because I wanted to. In fact, the set on my guitar right now, I've had on since early March of 09 (its october of 09, and they dont show signs of giving up).I tune to drop C#, which is basically drop D, then down a half step and i think the tension is almost perfect, even on a 25.5 scale.I play all sorts of music: punk, rock, metal, hardcore, progressive, screamo, (trying to get jazz down too) whatever and have been playing for 5-6 years now, and I must say, buy these strings. They are decently priced, and WILL last you as long as you can stand I believe. They suit my style of playing just fine, and I think they will fit any style you want.If Paul Waggoner from Bewtween the Buried and Me trusts D'Addario, then they are deffinately worth it.I've played DR, Dean Markley (cold steels WHICH SUCK), Fender strings, Ernie Ball, GHS...D'Addario just owns them completely.Best strings you'll ever use, I promise.

Comments about D'Addario EXL140 Nickel Light Top/Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are amazing. As a guitarist, and bassist who does mostly studio work I need a set of strings that can basicly play it all, and these do, and that is why I have ben using them for the past 7 years. If you are looking to buy a set of strings that can do it all, this is them.

Best strings ever for Metal players. The heavy bottom allows me to beat the living dyalights out of my guitar knowing that I'm not going to break one, and it still allows me to be able to bend my higher strings.

I've put a couple of sets of light top/heavy bottom strings on my acoustic-electric, and was not thrilled with the sound, until I put the D'Addario EXL140's on. wow! What a difference. The low end tone has come alive with strong, powerful lows, while the high end, despite the thinner than normal gauge (for acoustic), rings and sings. Really happy with these strings, and will buy again.

These seem to bring the best out of my pickups. Also since I have such a heavy attack, I'm pleased to say they don't break. I use Fender Heavy's and I'll wear out a pick before I even have to change them.

Love this brand of string. I usually play with 10s (10-46). Got these cause I needed a little extra tension since I'm in a band that plays a half step flat. These are good strings but, if you never played with a unbalanced set, its like your strings are on a step so to speak. Feels as if you got to grab a little more to get those top strings if your playing bigger chords than just power chords. For metal, there great. If your a country or blues player, ya might want to think about going to the 11s

I have never had one break on me, they are comfortable to play on, decent amount of wear time. I will continue using these strings forever. I just wished they made them in a Ten pack.
