Fits my 3-7/8" sound hole very snuggly, but probably designed for a 4" hole. If your sound hole is any smaller than 3-7/8", I wouldn't bother with this product. Mine is so snug that the sound hole cover lays slightly warped and concave upon installation. Made of a dense flexible rubber. Very easy to use, install, and very effective! It probably is the best feedback inhibitor of its kind. So thumbs up and FIVE STARS for that!

However, most will absolutely hate the unplugged acoustic sound. The sound projection is squashed and the plug seems to actually dampen the resonance of the top. These are the very reasons why it works so great for feedback! It will make even the nicest guitar sound like a Walmart special so you'll probably be unable to stand the acoustic sound and will remove it whenever its services are not necessary. So I'd like to take away a star but I can't penalize the product for doing its primary job well.

While the plug is easy to install and remove, it's hard to imagine that this thing will NOT damage the sound hole finish after repeated installs and removals. So minus ONE STAR because no one will be able to stand to keep this plug in their guitar all the time.

So, FOUR STARS because it delivers, even though it delivers more than promised, and for its likelihood of damaging the finish over time.

Not a good fit

It didn't fit my ooo Martin or my Seagull without sanding down the outside diameter. It measures over 4 inches, and the sound holes in the guitars are 3 7/8.

    Guitar boot/soundhole cover

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug:

My son plays in church worship band. When he played his aucustic/electric there were problems with feedback through the sound system. Using the Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug (Item # 360746000000000) has taken care of the problem.

    A Halt to the Screeching

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug:

This little guy has worked wonders. Not only did I buy for the amazing deal around 5 dollars, but it slipped into my soundhole in 2 seconds, and even 'UNPLUGGED' this adds a a certain quality to the sound. OBviously I didn't buy it to use it unplugged.. So i plugged it in at the first gig with it, and sure enough; NO feedback whatsoever, so i was able to be louder in my mix than ever before, which only boosted the quality of the floor mix. It really did create great tone along with destroying the screech. 4.5 features because I'm sure this wont fit EVERY guitar, and 4.5 quality because the rubber does cling to skin particles and pick particles after fingerpicking. Does that bother me? Nah, it fits and it rocks! There is a little bit of blood around my soundhole from rocking anyways ;). Haha Overall I love this thing. Looks great too, just looks like a shadow when it is in. Cool!

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug:

The e-catalog description said they fit all standard guitars. In our home there are seven acoustic guitars; I bought three "Screeching Halt" hole plugs, and they don't fit any of the guitars. The catalog should make it very clear that the hole must be exactly 4" in diameter. I'll return the plugs.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug:

Haven't used it on a gig yet, but it has allowed me to turn up the volume in my small practice room. I'm using it in a '98 Taylor 710ce w/ the Fishman blender system. I was pleasantly surprised by the soft rubber material (I was expecting plastic); and though it's definitely heavier, it's easier to install & remove and it's much more "finish-friendly" than its plastic counterparts. It also has a lower profile than the Lute Hole cover I used previously (and was never quite satisfied with b/c my pick would often click against it). Since it's a solid cover, I can blend in far more of my internal mic than with the Lute Hole cover. So for a fraction of the price it's simply a better cover for my application.

One Size Does Not Fit All

      By PJ-EE79x

      from Central Florida

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug:

My electro-acoustic Takamine classical guitar would not accept this sound hole cover. The rubbery material probably helps this product fit a range of sound hole sizes, but my guitar's sound hole is about 3.25 in., nowhere near the diameter of the "Screech." So, in my case, I'm still shopping.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Screaching Halt Guitar Soundhole Plug:

Works as expected. The material is rubber-like, and heavier than I expected, which is great. The price was cheap plus I bought it on sale which made it cheaper, so overall value was excellent. My only complaint is that it advertises one size fits all, and that's just not true. So I took off half a point on my rating as I think they should offer this in multiple diameters. This item does fit: - Taylor GA-314-CE - Fannin D57 1978 vintage dreadnoughtThis item does not fit: - Ovation CC245 12-string. The base of the neck sticks into the sound hole, and is wider than the cutout on the plug. Also, the diameter of the soundhole is smaller than the plug will fit into.

I never thought I would be SO excited about a little round, black piece of rubber. This little gadget is perfect for my Taylor acoustic. No more feedback problems during live performances. It is so easy to put in when I need it, and removes just as easily when it's not in use so I can use my humidifier. The ease of putting it in, and taking it out is incredible. Perfect fit! My acoustic still sounds great with it in without an amp. I love it, and the band noticed how much better my guitar blends and cuts through with their rocking sound; now I can crank it and rock on!

I'm not sure why some other reviewers were having problems fitting this into their guitars because I haven't found one that it won't fit. It's designed to be a snug fit, so it takes a little finagling to get it in, but it's not really THAT difficult, and certainly requires no mangling to get it in. I primarily bought it for my Alvarez Regent; it fits perfectly. Best of all, it does exactly what it's supposed to: eliminates feedback. That being the case, I would have been happy with it even at triple the price.

Does keep tones from feeding back when stepping up to adjust amp. I use this in a couple of different guitars that have always been notorious for feed back. The Soundhole Plug goes in easier than it comes out. Perhaps one for each instrument is a better solution. And it does put an end to screeching problems that can plague us all.

Doesn't fit any of my Ovation Baladeers. Doesn't fit any of my Martins. Doesn't even fit my Epiphone beater acoustic...Exactly what guitars does this thing fit in? ...None, as far as I can tell... If I tried really, really hard, I could barely squeeze it into the soundhole on the Ovation, but it was so tight that the center of the cover buckled inwards- looked cheesy and didn't seal the soundhole because of it. I don't know if they got a bad batch that are too big, or if there is some mystery guitar that these magically fit perfect in- but they are useless to me in *all* of my acoustics...

So you're aware- the bottom side of the cover- the part that goes into the soundhole is right around 4 and 1/32" (right around 102mm), but tapers to a bigger size as it goes towards the topside, kind of like a large wine bottle cork, and it doesn't like to be crammed in. If your soundhole is 4 and 1/16th or a hair bigger, it might work for you, but if the hole is exactly 4 inches or less- forget it...

I puchased this upon request of my wife's band leads after a practice session full of feedback issues. The diameter is too big to fit her Martin OMC. 30 minutes of sanding on the drill press with a sanding wheel I got it to fit. Buyer beware.
