Have tried most all other materials in a heavy pick, (stone, wood, V pik, surpick etc) and I return always to the Pro Plec. eveyone is different and like different picks I find the Dunlop delrin 1.5 also very good(after a little light sanding to remove the molding flash from the tip) but the slightly rounder tip of the PP has a free and faster release from the string.
I am a session player/sideman and have played guitar for over 30 yr's (man,, that long? I'm old!)
Many, many yr's ago I was asking a monster local jazz player about picking technique and asked about plectrum brands/types.

He said "Son, you can make a heavy pick lighter but never make a light pick heavy, you must learn proper technique so that your hands and fingers are in control not the pick" He explained how he struck the string very lightly with a heavy pick and was the key to faster runs and more expressive slower playing. Since then I have used heavier plectrums, mostly fender ex heavy and dunlop delrin 1.5mm. Between sessions in Nashville 15 yr's or so ago, i wandered into a bluegrass instrument shop and discovered the Pro Plec. It's been my main pick ever since. Yes it's a thick pick with little to no flex, the reviewer who thought "It is super thick and unresponsive. It really dulls the sound of your instrument" simply is not a player who doesn't prefer a heavy pick. different strokes.... But if you do use heavy picks the PP is an incredible pick to express your technical ability and produce broad fat tone. Imho the best celluloid 351(fender) style made.
Never have had a bad one, buffed and polished to perfection. long lasting and inprinted deep enough it acts as a mild grip surface.
Heavy pick user? speed player? jazz. rock bluegrass player? well worth the money.

The best and cheapest tone boost you'll ever get. Makes my leads scream! Maybe a little heavy for strumming, so what, you'll get used to it. They do wear faster then most. The tone makes up for it. As every guitarist does, I've been putting picks in my mouth for over 35 years and no matter if you wash these with soap and water they will still taste like you just picked it up from the oily club parking lot and popped it in your mouth! I've got old ones in a cup from 8 years ago that still taste like power steering fluid!

Comments about D'Andrea Pro Plec Standard 351 Guitar Picks - One Dozen:

This Pro Plex Pick is Awesome. Its a one of a kind, good material, and Its a workable Pick, You can Work this Pick to fit your needs and Still have that awesome Feel and Tone!
Hi, I'm Randy. I've been playing guitar for around 50 years now, and I've tried probably most ever type Pick out there, from Wood, Stone, Metal, Plastic. If I could find it, I tried it. I saw these Pro Plex 351's and thought I'ld give them a try. I like a thick Heavy Pick, to me the sound produced is a much richer smoother sound. The problem is not finding a Thick Heavy Pick, but Finding a Thick Heavy Pick that's right. The Pro Plex 351 standard is the one I've been looking for. Its Smooth on the strings and can give a deep Bite when needed and also as Light as your fingers. Now I know that some say Its too thick, it slows me down, or I can hear it on the strings, This is all true, but this is also true with any pick. Its Up to you to make it smooth, and Its not going to happen the first time you try one either. I noticed that after about and hour of hard picking, that the sound was improving, smoother tone, and the speed, was actually faster. I love this Pick, and will buy them again. If You want the people around you to notice a difference in your playing then by all means give these a try. You won't regret it, I promise. Randy from Tennessee!
There are many Heavy gauge thick Picks on the Market. But some You can hear loudly on the Strings, some just don't feel right in your hand. But This Pro Plex 351 Feels good and sounds great. It doesn't have that Plastic sound or feel Great Quality Pick. Buy This one!
I'm no different from you, I'm sure like myself, that you have tried many, many different Picks. Some for feel and some for their bite. To me, for a Pick to work It has to feel right, come off smooth on the strings and most of all produce a great tone. The Pro Plex does this and more. Best Pick I've Used up to Date!

Comments about D'Andrea Pro Plec Standard 351 Guitar Picks - One Dozen:

D'Andrea has been making guitar picks for a long time. They invented the plastic guitar pick. The Pro Plec is one of the best picks they make, which is saying a lot.If you are looking for a hard pick that is still flexible, the Pro Plec 1.4 mm would be a good pick to buy.I have a large collection of guitar picks and the D'Andreas set the standard for quality and value.

Comments about D'Andrea Pro Plec Standard 351 Guitar Picks - One Dozen:

Disappointed that the picks (which I think are excellent for soft playing/a soft attack) came warped so they feel uncomfortable between your finger and thumb...I sent an email and MF quickly sent out a new bag of 12 and they were the SAME WAY....like they were laying in a very HOT room. I will try to straighten them...my wife said she would try and iron them between some cloth and see what happens....Sorry MF I have to tell my true experience...Still love you though! Great job 99% of the time.......TB

I have used Fender Celluloid Medium Picks for countless years & experimented with a PLEC a friend gave me... I noticed a completely new tone coming from my electric guitars that I love! I'm still not certain if I like the overall tone these create on my acoustic guitars & still find myself using the Fender Mediums on these for the most part. Good quality picks!

Comments about D'Andrea Pro Plec Standard 351 Guitar Picks - One Dozen:

After using a medium pick for 30+ years, I decided to try a heavy pick, as recommended by Robben Ford. A heavy pick greatly enhanced my playing and after trying 15 or more different picks (and finally deciding on an extra heavy), the D'Andrea is my top choice - great feel and tone. I am a professional level player and, for fast runs, rakes, chicken pickin', etc., the quick response of this pick is perfect. Great for rock, blues, jazz, country - whatever. If you are more of an aggressive or heavy handed player, with a lot of attack on the strings, I would not recommend this pick (or any heavy pick). But, if you are competent in controlling a heavy pick with single notes and chords, I would highly recommend the D'Andrea Pro Plec.

Out of the package, the grip was too smooth for me, but these rough up nice after carving a cross hatch with a dull knife. Awesome tone, warm and punchy. I use as an alternative to metal picks. Definitely a hard pick, but once you get used to that style you have more touch and dynamics. These are very durable. I have used for a couple years and still have untouched picks in the package.

Comments about D'Andrea Pro Plec Standard 351 Guitar Picks - One Dozen:

My standard pick used to be a Fender extra Heavy white 351, but they always varied greatly in actualy thickness and quality. I also like that I can get them in the same thickness in the rounded triangle shape.

So far these picks are exactly what I was looking for as a replacement and they are easier to find other than buying a gross of the white extra heavy Fenders (which I've seen mostly as out of stock or a special order).

Comments about D'Andrea Pro Plec Standard 351 Guitar Picks - One Dozen:

I don?t know what makes the Pro Plec?s plastic blend so special, but its the greatest pick I?ve ever used. I?ve even converted several other guitar players to this pick. It really sounds different from all the other picks out there, and I've tried everything I could get my hands on? even spent $ for a Lignum Vitae pick once, and this is better. Somehow, it brings out and focuses all the right frequencies (strong mids and a slightly dark tone). And, it minimizes that pesky pick click too. They are also approaching indestructible, I can?t ware them down and I pick pretty hard.
