This Pickup had More volume than the more expensive gold model . I run it thru a ZOOM A2 Processor and am able to get a professional quality sound of a Yamaha FG730s running 11-52 Phos Dunlop Strings, which are all I use now .I have 2 of these pick ups and recently bought a Baggs M1 , To my surprise, once processed the Markley holds it's own well ..If some kind of inline preamp or processor is not used, it will definitely not sound as good . Simple is always best in my opinion . I've always liked the sound of the Markley Sound hole pickups, except for the Z-7 which I think they quickly discontinued years earlier .. This is a Quality low priced pick up as I see others prices rising to the hundreds ... pric

This seemed like a great deal when I got it. Little "quacky" but really nice for the money. Then after 2 weeks it just plain stopped working. No sound. I read the box instructions for fixing the "solderless jack cable," followed to the letter, and it worked again. I baby it and don't use it much, and today (a year since I bought it) it just plain stopped working again. No sound. I tried the process again to fix the solderless jack cable (supposedly "easy" according to the company) and nothing. I have never put strain on it, kept it stored in the box or a protective bag, have used it for church music maybe 10-12 times and rarely at home. The cable has never been stretched, pulled, strained, nothing. Completely unacceptable. I would not buy this again. I am currently in contact with Markley to get my 5 year warranty honored (NOT a transparent process!).

I recommend this pickup to anybody

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I used this pickup with my favorite acoustic guitar for years. I played lots of small venue gigs, and the sound from this pickup was always a very nice reproduction of the sound from my guitar. I placed the pickup as high in the tone hole as I could, and the sound was great, without volume problems. I also recorded with this, and had no complaints. It did everything I ever needed it to do. Buy this one (the black colored one, not the natural colored one)!

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I bought this at a local store, and it sounds great live. It sounds amazing, even. But I bought it in order to record at home, and for recording, it is ridiculously horrible. It is really muddy sounding, and I went through a preamp, as well as an EQ. Even with EQ's, it sounded like a badly recorded electric guitar. Also, when recording it pickups a lot of background noise. I'm taking it back tomorrow and getting my money back. But again, I can't stress, live it sounds amazing. I have no clue what the deal is, but thats it.

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

i got this pick up today because the store i went to didn't have the one i origianlly wanted so i had to settle for this one. it is a sweet pickup and will fit just about any guitar. i love the low end on this thing cause i play on a seagull s6 and it really shows the guitars true colors. it isn't very loud by itself but if you plug it into a preamp it will give you all you need and more. i'm still messing with my mixer trying to get that perfect blend of high and low yeah it doesn't come perfect outta the box. if you're not using a mixer or a pa with a good equalizer the this thing might not be for you cause it does have some balance issues but nothing that can't be taken care of.-Peace

    Great Pickup

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I just bought this today and right off the bat love it. For those of you who can't get sound out of it read the instructions. Raise it up closer to the strings. It is that simple. I play through an Acoustic AG60 and all my guitars sound awsome with this picup.

I would have liked a volume dial but this is a passive pickup and I can live with that. I think many issues people are having with this have to do with the solderless jack, if your sound is week or cutting out adjust the jack as the instructions say.
Cable isn't as big a gage as I would like.

    Great pickup for the price

    By Spike586

    from Ohio

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

When my main guitar was in the shop, I needed a decent, easy-to-use acoustic pickup for my backup guitar. The Markley ProMag Grand exactly fit the bill. Easy to install, w/good balanced sound. Used with LR Baggs Gigpro preamp to boost volume and minor EQ tweak. I had no trouble with the low E-string as some have reported. Played through a Marshall AS-50R and my church?s soundboard/PA and sounded fine on both.Pros: Humbucker eliminated hum I got with Markley?s single-pole pickup. Ease of install. Decent balanced sound for the price. Can move to other guitars if needed.Cons: Low output level?easy to correct with preamp. Slightly lower volume on bass strings?again, easy to correct by raising pickup on bass side while leave treble side lowered?all explained in the instructions.Recommendation: If you?re looking for a relatively inexpensive, decent sounding, easy-to-use pickup, buy it! I am very happy with it and would absolutely buy it again.

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I use this on my 2 acoustics. EJ-200 and Yamaha 730. I didn't want to buy an acoustic/electric, even though I really would like to. This is a more cost effective option. The only problem is readjusting it with different amps. No EQ onboard
I use my guitars for around the campfire and when the campfire is bigger, I use this. The first one I received stopped working after 2 hours. Sent it back, one week later, got the new one. Don't know and don't care what the cause was. MF made good on the purchase. So I waited a week before writing a review. So far, so good. Enjoy

    Best Of Both Worlds!

Comments about Dean Markley Pro Mag Grand Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

Overall, this is my first acoustic pickup, and this is the first time I've been able to plug in one of my acoustics (Washburn D100DL). I bought it yesterday to prepare for a gig that I have tomorrow. I brought it home and plugged it in through my GDEC 3, and it blew me away. Why spend extra on an acoustic-electric when you can get the guitar you want and use this? It's the best of both worlds.
Not many features, but I like how you can customize your sound.
Wish the cable was thicker and longer, but overall, the rest of it is awesome.
Now I wish I bought it at Musician's Friend...

I got this pickup to use overdrive on my accoustic and it does it well. It does not make a huge sound difference but it makes an acoustic sound really cool! Over all I like it.
