As the title suggests, this is a great little stand. I got it as a combo pack with an e609 guitar mic and this thing made that purchase even sweeter. It's heavy and very well made. I could not believe the flexibility of the boom, as it has all the standard adjustments as well as a 3-section telescoping boom. It will get my guitar mic exactly where I want it and will try it with my kick drum mic next. The only reason I gave it less than "5" for value is that I'm not sure I would've paid the sticker price if purchasing it on it's own...but now that I have it, I can tell you it's worth every penny for such a good investment towards such quality gear.

The stands seem heavy duty and capable of handling large microphones. However, they suffer from an inferior design, where it is possible to pull the boom directly out of the stand base. If you try to insert the boom back into the knurled knob and force it down like I did, you will break the plastic collar inside that is used to tighten the shaft against the base. My stand is now unusable.
If you do buy this and accidentally pull the boom out, unscrew the knurled knob completely and remove the plastic collar before inserting the boom back through. This will save you money.

Comments about DR Pro DR259 MS1500BK Low Profile Mic Boom Stand:

Ok, it's hard to get excited about a mic stand, after all it's not going to make you play or sound better, but having a dependable one definitely gives you one less thing to worry about. This little boom rocks. It's perfect for mic'ing the top rotor on my Leslie. It's really heavy for a small stand, very sturdy and stays where it's set. I think DR Pro is going to be my go to for stands from here on out. They cost a bit more but it's always been my philosophy to buy the best gear that I can afford.

Comments about DR Pro DR259 MS1500BK Low Profile Mic Boom Stand:

Let's be honest...a lot of times mic stands are an after thought. They're not glamorous, they don't make you louder or give you new tones...they've got a rather boring job to hold a mic in place. So it's real easy to say to yourself "the cheap stands will work just fine". If you're going to set a stand up in your bedroom or garage and never move it...maybe. But as soon as you start throwing it in a hardware trunk and dragging it around to shows, that's when you're going to find our why it was so cheap.

These stands will hold a mic where you put it, and not move. Period. They're the most stable tripods I've used (and I've used a lot). You can put a fairly heavy mic at the end of these, have the boom extended, and not worry about your mic crashing to the stage floor during a performance.

And seriously...does it really make sense to put a kick drum mic that costs a couple of Franklins on the end of a stand that is being held together with gaff tape? When your cheap stand fails during a show, you'll forget all about the money you "saved".

I bought 2 of these for the purpose of mic'ing up a snare and HH on a rather large (think Peart) drum kit. I was so impressed with them, that I bought two of the full size stands/booms for overheads.

Like my dad used to say..."Expensive is only expensive one time. Cheap is cheap everytime you use it."

Quit chasing your mic around...check our the DR line of mic stands.

Comments about DR Pro DR259 MS1500BK Low Profile Mic Boom Stand:

I usually buy the cheap mic stands. This mic stand costs significantly more than I usually spend. Folks, it is worth the extra money. The difference in quality is obvious right away. The only issue is, read the dimensions of the stand before you buy. It is small and short, focused on special purpose mic positions.

Comments about DR Pro DR259 MS1500BK Low Profile Mic Boom Stand:

I have become a real fan of the DR Pro after K&Ms became so scarce. Before I pontificate on the design flaws, let me first state that it is a very high quality stand. These stands are billed as "Low Profile" yet the central "trunk" is pretty high. This is due to the fact it contains an extension to raise the boom higher. In my opinion, defeating the "Low Profile" aspect. Why would you want to raise a "Low Profile" mic stand higher? This means that in practice, I have to use the boom to "drop" the mic into position, thereby taking up too much room for applications such as micing a kick drum, snare bottom or an amp. I took this stand to a machine shop and had the clutch tension knob, trunk and extension cut in half, doubling the cost of the stand, but doubling its effective uses. Color is excellent for stage.

Comments about DR Pro DR259 MS1500BK Low Profile Mic Boom Stand:

We bought this microphone stand for two purposes (depending on the act).

It is the right height to act as a bass drum microphone stand. When we use it for that purpose, it is holding a Shure Beta 52A kick drum microphone. That mic is NOT light. This stand works well to hold it.

It is also the right height to hold a SM57 when you are miking an amplifier. Its short height means it doesn't stand out.

I probably should have brought two.
