OVERVIEW

Mellow tone and easy playing.

DR flat wound Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are built on a round core, unique in the industry. Hi-Beam bass strings require much more time, care, and extra steps to make than other strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible, musically warm and renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets.

Package of 5 medium bass strings, 45-125.

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend 5-String Bass Medium:

I like the FL5-45 - .045-.125" set on an '86 Fender Jazz 5, and on an '04 Ibanez thin-neck fretless 5. They're my Goldilocks sets: I go for play-ability, musical fundamentals, tonal balance up and down fret, string to string. The set is relatively low tension: flexible enough for quick arpeggios, and punchy enough for stronger rhythm work. I like how the B-string rings.

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend 5-String Bass Medium:

I have always played round wounds, that is until I played my buddies bass and discovered the glory of flat wounds! I play in a blues band and could never get that "muddy" thump through EQ tuning. These strings gave me the sound I was looking for along with the added bonus of comfort and ease of playing. Highly recommended!

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend 5-String Bass Medium:

Recently purchased these to go on a Schector Diamond series 5 string with EMG pickups. B,E,A,D strings are very consistent with each other and have a desirable full bodied balanced-spectrum tone. However, the G string has a bright, harsh tonality that is incosistent with the other strings for which I will need to find a replacement. Enough of a difference to be unusable until replaced. Have not owned them long enough to have any experience with longevity. Would make me wary of a repeat purchase.

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend 5-String Bass Medium:

I've played a lot of strings and DR are my prefered. I've played a few different flatwounds and there is something unique about these. I really like the feel and the sound and intend to use them from here out.
