one thing i've learned: you are the best reviewer. i bought 5 sets of these on special because i had read 15 reviews all ecstatic about these strings. they have full piano-like tones, in fact, too much so. my warwick thumb fretted bass now sounds to me as if i were playing the low notes on a piano. sorry, but i want my bass to sound like a bass not a piano! i previously used & loved 3 sets of dean markley blue steel SS strings. strings are like stereo speakers they all have different sounds like stereo speakers. DR's are well-made strings, good strings just not the sound i like for my taste in stainless. i even prefer my less expensive D'A XL nickels XL160 for their sound compared to these DR's. basically, all i'm saying is buy 1 set & try them ikf you love them by more, just don't buy several sets of any strings for your bass based on other people's reviews.

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
Have been using these on several of my basses for several years. Only problem that I have is that I have to mark down when I put them on since they dont die like every other string that I used, Then, when I put a new set on, its like, "dang, I could have got another couple months out of them..."
Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
The previous strings on my '08 MIM Jazz were Elixer coated strings, so when I put the DR High Beams on I was disappointed to find that they were not as bright brand new as the used coated strings. However, after about 3 months of pretty heavy slapping, they sound exactly like new, if not better, and it's become clear that the reason they were less bright was because they simply weren't as harsh. They have already outlasted every other set of strings I've owned with zero decay in tone quality. I plan on purchasing High Beams as my next set of strings as well, because there is nothing that will cost so little during the long run.
Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
I decided to try these after some recommendations by some fellow bass players, and I just can't say I like them. They feel very strange to my fingers for some reason. Tone is okay, not great.
I have played my Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys for 20 years, and I guess I am just more comfortable with them, their feel, their tone.
Well made string, though.
Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
Best strings ive had yet. I have these on my ESP D-4. I bought them because i was shooting for an Alex Webster kind of tone at the time and wow they have great sound. Most of the other strings i have had loose tone in about 2 or 3 months max. ive had these for about 5 months now there still give me that nice growly wet sound. there great for metal. ive also played them with classic rock and slap and pop. there amazing strings all around. the D'addario XLs, Ernies, Boomers or Rotosound i had are no comparison. these strings also dont stain easy at all. so if you want quality strings that last, DR all the way.

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
After using GHS Super Steels for years, I tried DRs when I couldn't find my GHS supers. WOW. I go for piano-string tone (love that ringing twang) and I never thought I'd find a string equal to the Super Steels. Plus, the DRs are easier on my fingers, and they last longer too! It's been 18 years now with the DRs and they're all I use... on all 17 of my 4,5,and 6-string basses.
Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
I have played them all and when a friend told me you have to try these strings trust me I said ok. Well for starters I've been playing 25yrs and have played them all. These strings are brilliant! Pucnhy, they growl and they also can be toned down for a nice warm sound. They feel different than any other string I've played. I simply love these strings.
Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
I actually converted most of the guitarists I've worked with over the years to DR's, but continued using Earnie Ball and D'Adario because of the price. Now DR strings are only a few bucks more then the others.DR strings actually stay bright for more then a couple days, which is more then can be said for the others. The last set of Earnie Balls I put on were dead after a day.
Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:
These strings do not do anything for me. I tried them out and they lost all ring within two weeks. They sounded harsh and had a hard bite. The only one that sounded decent was my E-string. I replaced them with standard Fender bass strings, which made the bass magical. They also felt rough, not smooth like Fender strings do, if thats what your into.
