I decided to finally replace my year old set of dr sunbeams with these. This is my first set of coated strings from DR. I've liked their strings in the past but wasn't sure how the coating would effect their sound. I was also worried with bright green strings that they might be a gimmick for people to look cool if they don't care how they sound.Fortunately my worries were unwarranted. I have to say that these are the best strings I have tried so far. My only complaints with DR strings in the past are that the new ones are pretty rough and a bit too bright. Sliding on some brand new sunbeams is a good way to sand down your fingertips. I love the sound and feel of some well broken in DR's though. They lose all of that roughness and the highs mellow out a little. These strings with the new coating address those problems and play like some slightly broken in DR strings. They have all the punch and growl of normal brand new DR strings but are nice and smooth right out of the package. These strings make your bass sound like.. well, a bass. They have a perfect tonal balance, not too bright and tinny, and not too low and muddy. Just the right amount of growl, or punch, or bark, or whatever you want to call it.As for the color of them, it looks pretty amazing. I unfortunately don't have a black light to see them really light up, but you don't need one. Despite looking like they should, these strings don't actually glow in the dark which would be pretty cool. They are just a very vibrant color. They almost look like they are glowing under just normal lighting conditions. These would be a great way to stand out in your band. (until your guitarist sees them and gets some of his own.)The new coating seems to do its job well. Even having them rub on the metal of the bridge stringing them through none of the coating came off. The coating is nice and even along the entire length of the strings, no bare spots. I have played them for about 15+ hours fingerstyle and slap and the coating still looks brand new. I hear a pick is a little harder on coated strings but I have no experience there.Overall so far they look, sound, and feel amazing, everything I would want in bass strings. Admittedly I haven't played them long enough to see how the coating and sound will stand the test of time. So far I have had nothing but good things from DR strings and this is no exception.

Well, this is an update to the review that I wrote in February. After playing with these strings for only 5 gigs and some hours of practice I noticed that the strings were unravelling at the bridge and showed signs of damage. I tuned my bass to play for awhile and before I could begin playing the D string broke at the ball end and the outer winding just unravelled! I am very upset that these strings didn't last longer- especially for what they cost!I WILL NOT buy anything made by DR again! I will go back to my trusted Ernie Ball strings and not look back. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE!

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green Bass SuperStrings Medium 4-String:

I initially bought these strings because my daughter thought they were "cool" and would look good on my solid black bass. And yes, they do really "pop" on stage and can really be seen from a good distance. What I have found is that the quality of the tone these strings produce is excellent! Great quality tone from top to bottom. Our sound guy had to completely EQ my bass on the board because of the richness of the tone. They react well when I want them to, and provide a long and steady tone when I need them to sustain. You will get many compliments on their color, but will be pleasantly surprised by their quality and consistency. I will be buying more when the time comes.

I bought an orange set for my 5 string bass, and really love the feel and sound. When I bought my green bass, I bought the green strings to go with it. I want to get other colors for my other basses, and maybe even for my guitar.

I have the pink ones and, as they are DR strings, they are great strings. BUT!!!! If you do any slides (and who doesn't?) you will get stringburn like you've never had it before. I mean screaming "oh my crimony!!!" out loud string burn. It is insane and weird. But, man, they are funny and cool.

I put these on the Dean Custom Zone Fluorescent Pink and it looks BEAUTIFUL. The only downside is that you need a blacklight to make them glow. So during one of my gigs, I gave 3 members of the aduience blacklights and had them shine them directly at me for my 45 minute set. I don't care if I was in key or not because I was beautiful with these strings!

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green Bass SuperStrings Medium 4-String:

DR NEON HiDef green bass SuperStrings medium 4-string review: ACTIVATE! These strings grab a LOT of attention from the peanut gallery, so prepare to get plenty of compliments (I was quite surprised to not get jeered by the old war horses; EVERYBODY loves these things). They glow quite well under a black light, but you'll need a lot of it to work; during one show, a single 20w bulb on my mic stand just couldn't compete with the relatively low stage lights it was up against.

The strings don't sound particularly different from anything I've used in the past, and feel pretty good to the touch, but I had quite a bit of experience with Elixir bass and acoustic strings before hand, which have a similar texture. Just be warned that these don't feel like metal at all. I had my first set of these for about 8 months before my E string (really?!) broke, right down at the bridge over the saddle. I was miffed, but I was impressed enough with the strings to order a second set. The wear and tear on the coating wasn't really that bad, and I use a pick 80% of the time. So yeah, buy these if you want a really great gimmick that's surprisingly functional.

I just built a fretless bass for my high school grad project, the whole thing is jet black with green pinstripes so these strings made sense. These strings are amazing! I used fastfret as soon as i got them and once every week or so and I haven't gotten any of the burns other people are talkin about, and i slide A LOT. I would recommend these for any bass player but I haven't tried the guitar ones yet... That'll be next!

Hey! Greenie Booger here. I have been using these strings for about 8 years now. I replace them every six months. Use them on my Black Fender Deluxe Bass. I play with a pick (heavy punk) and they hold up amazingly well. I can see the wear only where I pick, so I don't mind much. They do get a little sticky when I sweat and can get a little string burn, but I have a fan on stage all the time pointed towards my upper body. I don't know if it's the great setup on my bass or the strings themselves, but a week can go by without practice and it's perfectly in tune everytime I pick it up. Crowd comments on them all the time, but hey, my band name is Greenie, so it's a given.

Well I got these strings and they sounded great at first but after less than 8 hours of practice time (over a week) My 105 string broke.. yes my E broke, I will admit I was upset to no end, so I emailed DR about this and they sent out a replacement.
At first i had some buzzing going on with the strings, but that slowly worked its way out over time. These strings are still rather new so only time will tell how well these strings will hold up. I play a grunge style using a pick and while I temproarily replaced the broken E with my extra set of rotosounds 105, I played pretty hard on the remaining strings to see if they would break and they held up great.
I will say this though. after a while, the green coating will start to chip away from using a pick but thats is to be expected with coated strings.

I play several different basses and choose my bass for a gig based on my mood and what kind of show I'm doing. I have DR neons on two of my five basses and would put them on all of them if I didn't want some to look "normal". I bought the neons for their look and they really look good. I haven't experienced any of the flaking problems that some others have menioned. I don't use a pick but I pluck pretty hard much of the time.

I have yellow and green right now but will likely get the other colors since I can swap out my strings on my Steinberger XT pretty easily. Just wish they made blue, purple, and some other colors and flatwounds would be sweet on my fretless axes.

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green Bass SuperStrings Medium 4-String:

I picked these up at the local music store after my friend showed them to me in orange on his bass. I chose 'HI-DEF GREEN'...they really are bright, even in normal lighting...under UV light these things really react, the pictures you see are a pretty good idea of what you get. for features I gave them a 5 because you get what it says on the box...neon strings. Buying these solely for the color I didn't know how they would sound, I was really pleased when I sat back and played with them for a while. Playing with or without an amplifier these strings sound great, just what i want to hear from a nice new set of round-wounds. they're right up there with a set of ernie's, fender's, d'addario's, dean markley, or whatever high quality rounds you play...these sound a lot like em. The Quality is really good in my opinion, especially considering they are made by hand. even so the strings look and feel quite similar to most popular wound-round bass strings. I only give a 4.5 because contrary to the box's claims the coating began to flake off in very small amounts as soon as i finished putting them on, no biggy they still glow brightly even so. the coating makes the string feel a bit less smooth than usual for me...but im not picky its just something that some ppl might want to note. The value is a 4 because they are about 8 bucks more than I usually pay for strings but again, cool neon factor makes the extra money worth it for me. They sound great, and look really cool, buy them!

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green Bass SuperStrings Medium 4-String:

The strings are very cool when you put them on, and even in broad daylight, they stick out and look very nice. The back of the pack that you recieve them in says that they last longer than other normal stringa and that the neon coating won't chip off; yes, then no. They did last a while, but the coating started chipping off just above the pickups on the 2nd strings a few days in. It never really got much worse than that though. Also, they are a little duller than most other strings and don't have the same metallic feeling you could get with other strings. Still, besides these downsides, they look very cool, glow under a good amount of black light, and I will probably use these at a few indoor shows. Don't use them as your go-to strings, but they have their uses.

I just purchased the DR Neon Green strings and installed them on my Fender P-Bass. I have never used DR's before so I didn't know what to expect. They are very bright and seem to be wound well. I'm still stretching them out so I haven't played too much with them, yet. From what I can tell, they sound very good and bright- haven't plugged into my Ampeg yet. As for the reviews that say that they are hard on the fingers- maybe people who haven't developed caluses on their fingers (who don't play often) think that. They don't feel any worse than anything else. Actually, I think they feel even slicker than the Ernie Ball strings I usually use, but I have always applied Fast Fret to my strings. I guess time (and many gigs) will be the ultimate decision maker for me on these. From what I can tell, these should work-out very well. I think they are a little pricey, but they are a novelty string. I can't wait until my upcoming show!! :)

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green Bass SuperStrings Medium 4-String:

I tried these out for the first time at a recent gig, on my all black fretless Zon (with black hardware, of course). Looked totally cool, worth the price of admission right there. Being a fan of DR already I had some small expectation that they would actually be usable and not just pretty - and they are: reasonably bright, relatively low-tension (like a Hi-Beam), held their tuning and stayed zingy through warmup, gig, and subsequent rehearsal. I'd definitely buy again if I feel like I can afford it... (my fave strings are still D'Addario XL160 - perfect gauge, great strings, and even better price). Caveat: the DR Neons are very DRY and tacky; while doing some fretless showboating at the gig I actually BURNED my finger. Use some FastFret, or even the condensation off a cold water bottle - you'll need it....
