As a music student, I do quite a bit of playing every day, and I must say that the DR Neon Green guitar strings (or any of their colors, for that matter), are pretty much as awesome as they look (which is pretty awesome). These strings glow under a blacklight, and look pretty darn good under regular stage lighting, too. Of course they'll flake after a lot of hard playing, but this really only occurs where you're pick/fingers are striking the strings. Overall I'd say that the coating is on there pretty well, especially on the low strings. There's no discernible difference in sound quality between the Neons and other DR strings (which always sound great), such as the DDTs or the Pure Blues. You can obviously feel the difference between a non-coated plain string and a coated Neon string, but as far as I can tell, there's no adverse affect on the sound of the instrument. If anything, I'd say the coating helps me move around the guitar, adding just the amount of traction without affecting my facility. These may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for something that's gonna turn heads at gigs (it definitely does) and doesn't affect the sound of your axe (it doesn't), then the DR Neons are the way to go.

I bought these strings for fun just to see how it would look on my guitar. I expected these strings not to be high quality but, wow, these strings are just HORRIBLE! I strung up my guitar and in less than 15 minutes of moderate playing (I estimate about 30% of) the coating of the unwound strings flaked off onto my guitar. Not only does this look bad but, more importantly, seriously diminishes playability. My fingers then slide over rough, flaking strings. Ouch! Cute idea...terrible execution!
Cute idea. Looks nice....(before playing).

Value, with any product, is relative to quality. At $12 a set the value is not good. Even if they were $2 a set it would not be a good value because of the poor quality. I have purchased other string sets for as low as $4 that were much better.

Coating on high e chips off when I play a solo on it,
I play mostly rhythm guitar, so it's okay for me, would not recommend for lead guitarist.

These sound good and have a nice color. The only issue I have is the color is easy to flick off with a pick on the 1st 2nd and third string. But the 4 th 5th and sixth string hold an amazing color.

        Something different

        By Little Willie

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green SuperStrings Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

Let's face it - these are gimmick strings, plain and simple. Of course, if you're a performer and your guitar is plain and simple - these strings could add a needed bit of flash. Everyone who has seen the on my guitar have commented about the 'coolness' of them - and if you use black lights on stage any at all they light up like they had LEDs wired into the ends. I've not had them very long, and I don't play this guitar more than recreationally, but apart from the inital install, I haven't had any coating degradation yet (mind you, the headstock was covered with flecks of green after winding these things on the tuners). Some people may not like the coating - it is nothing like the coating on the Elixir strings - it almost feels like vinyl, and even I notice a slight drag on my fingers as I slide them up and down the fretboard. I'm also not sure why this set is almost half the cost of the lighter gauge set - not that I mind, I generally play medium gauge anyway.

        DR NEON MEDIUM GAUGE STRINGS

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green SuperStrings Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I have been around the sun many times. I have been playing for almost as long. These strings intrigued me because of my failing vision. So I thought I'd give them a try. In a nutshell, great feel and tone. I did have some issues keeping the G tuned initially on one of my Les Pauls (but that isn't really out of the oridinary). I play a lot and the coating lasted at least a month. Not bad. Great sustain as well. I wish single strings like this were available in case of breakage. All in all, I like them. Hey, I am ordering more! Come DR gurur's - start offering these babies in single strings as well. Think about it!

Work and look amazing for me.

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green SuperStrings Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

i bought a pack of these a few months ago and have play a few gigs since then with these strings. a crwod pleaser and sould freaking beautiful. Have yet to see what other people have wrote about how they go dead to quick paint is chiping. and easy string breakage. ive let many people play these string telling them to beat the livng crap out of em all from different styles of music ( i play punk pop, one friend who plays metal and another who plays zepplin kenny wayne floyd era music ect.) we have all gave theses things a very good workout. still after all that look and sound great. the only thing that happened and happened once was my buddy into the older music knocked the b string out of the nut. did that one time and hasnt done that since. plan to use these beauties this weekend for our 5 year anniversary show
stand out very well under black lights throw some stage lighting and a custom pick guard under these strings for an amazing color explosion
well for a while i was using super slinkys hated them cause the never stayed in tune. had a friend turn me on to dunlop medium heavy guitar strings. loved em. stay in tune alot better. my bassist turned me onto these and asked me to try them out. so i have. the coating like some have said really does make ur fingers glide over the fret board. add some ez string spray to em and words cant describe it.
worth the money i paid for them. im not gonnna go buy stock in them but ill do it up nice for those special ocasions

        Great look, great sound.

Comments about DR Strings NEON Hi-Def Green SuperStrings Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

They are worth a try to any player.
Some of the reviews I read before purchasing these strings said they were junk and the finish wasn't durable. Well, that is a matter of opinion based on the style of music you play and how hard you play. If your some metal shredding scale master, than these strings probably aren't for you. The finish will probably, and I say probably chip off after a couple of hours but for me and they style of music I play, they have been on for a couple of weeks and still look and sound great.
I belive them to be extremely high quality strings and I have a friend that plays and swears by the Black Beauties and these. After 2 weeks not a single chip, crack, distortion in sound or anything on my Strat. Time will tell.

If you want to look good on stage for one perfromance the'll do the job
I've been playing guitar for about 4 years i like to play upbeat mexi-ska and skacore and after some hard badass strummin the paint starts flaking off and you end up with patches of green on your strings which looks disgusting. if you want them for about 2 gigs get em but these strings aren't for me!
