Rich tone and great sustain!

Gauges 10-13-17-26-36-46.
Pure Blues electric guitar strings from DR Strings are designed with pure nickel wrap wire, roundwound upon round cores. While this is a slow, expensive method of string making, it does produce a guitar string acclaimed for increased sustain, vintage tone, and great low tones for playing music from rhythm to lead. The extra step of winding pure nickel around a round core give Pure Blues strings a punch that players say they are surprised to get in a vintage electric guitar string. Sounds great on any guitar!

My suspicion is that commodity prices for nickel and other metals have risen to the point that they're beginning to impact the quality and cost of guitar strings. I've noticed by checking reviews, that other brands and makes have been affected as well.
They sound good, but they used to sound better.
I've used this brand of strings since around 2001, and I agree with the other reviewer who said they used to be made better. Around five years ago, new sets started regularly having intonation problems with the D-string on just about any of my guitars they were installed on, especially vintage-style Stratocasters. Also, the outer wrap wire on the D-string gets eaten through more quickly by the frets and the contact points at the bridge.
They're cheap, but they used to be cheaper.

I have used these strings for as many years as they have been out. Have had them on all my strats & les paul guitars since then. About a year or two ago, they changed their packaging. That was about the time the quality dropped. Used to be, when I first strung the guitars, you could immediately hear the great tone and clarity of these stings, most particularly, in the G, B, and E unwound strings. After the packaging change, the difference was like night and day. The unwound strings were noticibly duller sounding. I still used them over the course of the past year. I had noticed that I was breaking B strings on a regular basis, before the sets were done. I never break strings, so I checked out the saddles on all my guitars to make sure there were no burrs. Nope. Further along, I noticed that all the B strings broke about 1/4" away from the bridges. I don't even play down that close to the bridge. Recently, I have switched to another all nickel string brand. No more problems. I really don't care if DR sees this. I won't go back to them anyway. What I do hope is that other manufacturers learn a lesson from this.-SP

Comments about DR Strings PHR10 Pure Blues Nickel Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

Pure Nickle is the classic string. I use it for Rock, but it's great for Blues, Jazz, and Country. I've purchased other brands of strings and had problems with 2 or 3 strings being flat right out of the bag. I've never had any issues with DR, and they always sound great.

Comments about DR Strings PHR10 Pure Blues Nickel Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I play blues and these strings came highly recommended by some of my blues playing friends. I bought two sets whcih was lucky for me, because the first set had a bad D string. It sounded like it was fretting out horribly at the 14th fret and the intonation was a mile off. It says inside the box that you should take a pliers and put a sharp bend in the string where it goes through the tuning peg in order to lock the winding to the core (or something like that). I guess my bend wasn't sharp enough.

Even if it was my fualt I don't think I'll be buying such delicate strings again in the future.

I swiped the D string out of my second set and now that I'm using them, I don't care for the sound - I like a brighter sounding string and these things are really dull. Of course that's purely a matter of personal taste.

Cheap materials, and horrible sounding. These strings are very high tension and have a terrible inconsistent sound pack after pack. The strings are made differently every time and very inconsistent. I would not recommend these to anyone wanting a great string that is comfortable or that has a great sound. Don't waste your money on these they are very very cheap. They definitely look like they were made by hands instead of a machine :(

Just put them on a standard telecaster last night. Sound great, love 'em! This is the first time I've used this brand and I think I made a great choice. I will definately purchase again. These strings produce a fantastic tone with great sustain...love that vintage sound. No complaints here!!!

I purchased a set of 9's based on a recommendation from my local music shop. They were easy to put on vintage tuners, but completely changed the tone of my strat. They sound a bit tinny, and they started to discolor after one practice session. I dont want to "dis" them because i have read a lot of positive reviews. They are just not for me.

Bought these the other day and put them on a few hours before a gig. After 3 sets of blues/rock the wound strings are dead... The D string was the worst of the three having very noticable dents in the wrap. I've had other stings do this as well, but after several weeks of use.

These strings are really good. I mainly use 9's which are excellent also, but wanted to go up a guage higher. These never broke on me. I've had them in for 6 months now. The 9's broke on me a few times. Excellent blues strings. Try them.

This is my second set of DR Pure Blues. The first set I got for my fixed bridge G&L ASAT. They lasted fine but I sold the guitar soon after so I can say for sure. The tone was just what I was looking for so I bought another set for my Bigsby (with roller bridge) equipped ESP XTone. One gig and two practices later, two strings out of this set have broken... Right at the bridge. The hi E was dead by the end of the first gig. Won't be buying again.

Comments about DR Strings PHR10 Pure Blues Nickel Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I am really impressed by the improvement these strings bring to my guitar's sound, and agree with the claims for better string balance, and increased sustain. I can feel my telecaster resonating much better with this string change. The volume definitely increased with a beefier tone. It's now a fuller bodied sound across the guitar's range without any muddiness. When I bend strings it's much more musical with more of a singing quality now. Maybe it's some sort of nickel mojo formula that works.
What I actually bought these strings for was to help lower the string tension, which they improved once they were quickly broken in. They are much easier to bend than the previous brand. This really helps with hand fatigue. These cost slightly more than the previous brands I've used, but offer a big benefit to cost ratio. If they are durable I'll convert all my electric guitars to this brand. Big rewards for a small risk.
