OVERVIEW

The sound is loud and warm.

Gauges 12, 16, 24, 32, 42, 54.

Rare Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Strings are a departure from the standard, good quality bronze string currently available -- not necessarily better, but possessing a new, different, and stronger voice. Hand-carved archtops, dreadnoughts, and good steel string acoustic guitars of rosewood, maple, and mahogany benefit from a distinct improvement in tone, depth, and sustain with a fatter, louder sound and a deeper bottom.

I've been using DR's for over 20 years now and they still do not disappoint. Many people say they are cheap and don't sound as D'addario or other brands, but you can tell what those peoples opinion is worth when they mispronounce D'addario hehe.

People complain these are too warm of a sound, well duh. You have to pick the correct set if you want a brighter sound or a warmer sound. That's why there are different models.

I will leave saying this... I've played more shows than most people have ever picked up a guitar. Just like any other strings, you should wipe them off quick when you're done playing, and they will last just as long and longer than coated strings. The sustain and tone is way better than any other brand.

Last.... I have NEVER broken a DR string... EVER. Not when playing, not when stringing, NEVER. I can't tell you before I found DR's how many time I broke a string doing a bend during a live show, or even how many breaks I've seen my students have when using a different brand.

DR's are just the best, until I find something better, DR holds the crown.

I bought a beautiful Guild d-40 that had DR rare's 12-54 on it. I really liked the tone and the owner told me he just put them on the day before. The strings had that good tone for about 3 day's or let's say 6 hours and then they sounded lifeless, dull, flat. I wanted to love these strings because they felt so nice in my hands so I bought some more from MF and the brand new strings out of the package had black spots up and down the string and they were dead immediately, I had to cut the brand new strings off and put on another set of ole standby strings. I hear they are handmade which made me immediately think they took great pride in these strings but out of my 2 experiences/3 different sets and completely different batches of strings I have to say they are very inconsistent and I wouldn't be buying anymore unless I hear they have taken care of these issues. I researched them after my issue and apparently this is common when talking DR strings. I want to like them because they did feel great and sounded nice that very first set but I need consistency with my tone.

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Well to start off, I have two acoustic guitars. I bought DR strings and D'addarios. The DRs have been to the beach for a week, been left in my car over night numerous times, been playing outside until the morning dew got all over the guitar and strings, and pretty much everything you can think of. And they still sound amazing. The D'adds have been sitting in my room with very little use and they've been corroded for a long time now. They feel great and they bend easily. They'll revive your guitar back to that bright, factory sound. I'm only buying DRs now. Plus they just feel so much more comfortable, D'adds hurt my fingers.

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have been using these since around 6-12 months after I started playing, on the recommendation of a friend. I wonder about the guy sometimes, but he was dead on when it came to his choice of strings. I have since tried D'addario, Elixir, Ernie Ball, Dean Markley, and virtually EVERY brand I could find (I ordered variety packs and tried everything!) Time after time, nothing beats this string for me. First of all, the tone is great--coated strings don't have the same tone. Second, the 'feel' of the strings: they feel slinky and playable, unlike some strings that feel dry and impossible to slide across. Finally, when it comes to the longevity arguement "But elixirs last longer!" I have to say that having used plenty of both, I have a strong tendancy to change coated strings just as often! Especially since elixir doesn't coat the plain steel strings, which quickly become cruddy and dented. So if I'm playing my acoustic alot and using elixirs I may change them every 2 weeks. If I'm using these, it's a week and a half. So, DR Phosphor Bronze are the best value. Definitely give 'em a shot!

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I am a guitar tech with my own shop, so I do a lot of string changes, and get to experience a lot of different strings on different guitars. My personal go-to acoustic strings have been Martin SP phosphor bronze for years. In my shop I use a lot of D'Adderio and Ernie Ball because they are good and inexpensive. About a year ago I went through a bunch of different strings, trying to find the best fit for my OM Martin. When I put on a set of DR Rares my search was over. They gave that guitar volume and richness that none of the other strings could match. Since then I've started putting the Rares on my dreadnaughts, and they sound great as well. They have a nice feel, and they last. The ones on my Martin have been on for two months, and still sound great.

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have been playing Martin Retro's on a D-18, SP 92/8's on a D-15M, and SP 80/20's on a D-35. Music style - folk and Americana. I really like them on the D-18 and D-15M. Mainly because I also like 92/8's on those guitars. They were OK on the D-35, but that is just my preference of liking 80/20's on the D-35. Maybe I'll try DR's 80/20 version on the D-35. They play easier than the SP's, but not as easy as the Retro's - so they are in-between the two. I like the tone, volume, and they stayed in tune very well just after putting them on All in all, I like them. It is too soon to judge how long they last.

I only use DR RPM 12 on my Martin D custom. These strings are all i have used on this guitar since i have owned it with the exception of a set of another brand and only because there were no DR RPM 12 available. But as soon as i could find a music store that had them, I got em. My MARTIN is my number one guitar and it is with me on every show I play and I record with this same guitar. DR RPM 12's have been my go to strings. For an acoustic guitar, these are THE strings to use for me. They last a long time and they sound great.

These strings make my Carvin Cobalt sound very good. The strings last 4 to 6 weeks with everyday practicing. I have never had a string break. These are good cheap strings and are better than some more expensive strings that I have used.

I have tried most of the major brands of acoustic phosphor bronze strings over the years. For me, DR is the best, and DR Rare their best option. There is a richness and depth and projection I don't feel or hear with any other brand. The sound is full and warm and natural - any guitar I own sounds best with DR Rare's on it. Just my option, but I am completely happy with them.

I've played many different acoustic strings. D'addario exp, multiple dean markley's, Ernie ball earth wood and coated slinky, Martin, Gibson, elixir, and a few custom string compamies. The only strings I've ever really had a problem with we're Dean Markley mtiple times. While I've usually have always stuck to exp's or the newer coated slinky I've never tried DR's. well the local shop was out of the slinky so I picked up a pack of these and man are they nice. They play just as smooth as a coated string yet still allow unbelievable binding while losing no speed with sliding. They bend with almost ease. But what I really enjoyed was the tone of these. It's a bit elixir like in standard E tuning, but my band plays a half step down and it was perfect. I didn't care much for the standard tune as I'm not big on the way elixir'ssound. But if that's your thing and you have trouble bending elixir's grab these. Keep them wiped down after sessions and you should get a good bit of time out of them. Quality stuff here. Not sure it will be a go to, but definitely one of my favorites in terms of acoustic. DR's quality shatters the likes of Dean Markley and all other phosphor bronze strings. My playing style hits a lot of natural harmonics(if thats what its called on an acoustic)when I pick a real unique feature to my playing I take Pride in. t's something I can't do with just anything string. These show it more than I've ever seen.

These strings sounded and looked great on the first day. I had to adjust my neck which was a real bummer. So after I adjust my neck and played with them for an hour, I thought I had found my new favorite strings. I picked up my guitar on the next day, and the strings had corroded. You could see and feel how dirty the strings were. I tried to use an alternate tuning where the G string has to go up to an A and my string snapped. I was really disappointed after reading all the good reviews on here. I would not recommend these strings.

I let the hype here help me to purchase 2 sets of these.
I perform 6 shows a week using one set of GHS s325's after 2 shows with the DR's they are coming off my RS-6. they corrode easy and because of the "Lower Tension" claimed here they require a neck relief adjustment so they don't buzz, which I experienced in the middle of the fretboard especially on the G string.
I realize a lot about the string you use is subjective but I won't use these again except in extreme emergency. Back to My GHS S325 which I have been using for a couple of years now.
I apologize to all you folks here who like these. I just don't see it.

DR Rares will bring your guitar back to life. They will bring out a rich full tone, resonance, and sustain to the maximum your guitar is capable of. I've tried many other brands but in terms of tone, volume and playability these strings are unbeatable. I highly recommend them.
