So, I've used the Tortex .73mm (yellow ones) forever now. I got to the point where those were wearing down really fast and I wanted to try something new. I decided to try these on a recommendation from friends. So far I love this pick. I'm not sure it necessarily "improves" my sound or tone. I think the majority of that lies in your individual pick attack and overall technique. However, all things being equal, I guess it does sound marginally brighter, and the attack feels slightly more aggressive than the Tortex.
I love the way this pick feels. The grip is solid without being "tacky" and it doesn't involve some other gimmicky setup like I've sen on other picks (bumps, sandpaper, jelly, etc.). It glides easily across the strings. Basically, I don't feel like the pick is "in the way" anymore and I can concentrate more on other areas of playing.
Bottom line, give these a shot. If you don't like them, you're only out a few sheckles.

Overall, the quality and sound of this pick is all there. I just prefer to have a bit more depth to the sound of my picks that the Ultex just can't deliver. The ultex is one of the fastest tracking picks I have used, but as far as sound is concerned, I think it lacks. There are much better sounding, yet unfortunately much more expensive picks in this catagory out there. If I were looking for the Ultex type of sound (which now I know I don't like) I would go with the Cool Juratex. The Cool Juraex tracks like the Ultex while retaining some warmth of say the Tortex pick. Like I said earlier, much better choices out there sound wise than the Ultex.
The Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks have a great feel/grip without doing anything to it like adding sandpaper, or scoring it. The "Sharp" tip is comparable to the Jazz III tip. I bought a couple packages of these to try out based off of Paul Riario from Guitar World's review of them. Personally, I agree that they have an excellent attack, grip, and bright tone, but I think the brightness combined with a lack of depth in sound that is created from the pick is a bit overwhelming for electric guitar. That being said, it all depends on what style of music your playing. I prefer a warmer sound with nice crystally highs. The Ultex does NOT deliver on the warmt. They do however track very tightly. I guess I'm just used to the sound of my trusty Tortex III picks. The III's point, like the Ultex Sharp, helps to attain those crystally highs without sacraficing the warmth. I feel that the Ultex is just too "brittle" I sounding. I have the Ultex a 6 because they are not a bad pick at all, just not for me. I could see using these on a big warm Martin acoustic guitar though.
Dunlop picks are always of great quality.
Musician's Friend prices are always right; Especially in the accessories department.

This pick is a great balance of size, texture, and tone. It's bright, but not shrill, and does not move in my fingers which is nice because I can relax my grip, which improves control. I am exclusively using these now.

The sharp point on these makes all the difference. They have a whole different feel than rounded tips, and allow for more precise playing. The overall quality and consistency is also excellent.

This the pick I was looking for. I was using the Black Fang .94 pick, but it would wear down too quickly. I saw these and thought to give them a try. Feels and plays like the Black Fang, but does not wear down anywhere as fast.

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:
Finding a pick that suits your needs, last long time, gives good tone, easy to use, and has good grip is a quest for all guitarist who really care about their playing and tone. It all ended here with this pick for me.
I use the 2.0mm gauge because I like to have a warm, big, and dynamic pick. The sharp tip really helps when you need to play some fast runs or fast strumming patterns. Each pick will probably last me about 2-3 weeks before the tip is gone. Because I play a few hours daily!
I recommend you try 1.4 or 2.0mm ones to drastically improve your picking technique and dynamics. This pick is great for both acoustic and electric. Very nice thick tone.

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:
This, in my opinion, is the best pick on the market. It has a sharp and very durable point that barely wears with time. In fact, the wear isn't like normal nylon picks where you can get grooves where the strings are attacked. Instead, it just brushes some of the surface off, kind of like a self-sharpening blade. It is also extremely stiff. If you need speed and accuracy this is your pick (PUN).

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:
I've been a diehard Tortex 1mm user for over twenty years, but the Ultex has really turned my head. Soundwise, it kind of splits the difference between Tortex and celluloid--it has that celluloid 'chirp' to it on high gain leads, but doesn't wear down and is stiffer like Tortex.
What really does it for me though is the way this pick feels. It's almost like there's nothing in my hand. the way it glides across strings is just... indescribable. Makes me a slightly better player, or at least makes me feel like that, which is good enough. Highly recommended.

Nice pick. Looks really good. A little more pick noise than the Dunlop Gator Grip 2.0, which I prefer for playing acoustic.

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:
I gave these Jim Dunlop ULTEX SHARP 1.40 picks a try after I heard someone else talk about them. They have exceeded my expectations! I have paid up to $12 for a single pick, but this ULTEX gives me what I need for much less. I bought it for speed picking. Many other picks wear out fast. This one is lasting very long. I highly recommend this pick!

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:
been using .75 and 1.0 for years. these .90 are the perfect pick guage for me. Love them. Can strum out rythyms as well as speed pick when soloing. They have good grip, no slipping in the fingers when on stage under the hot lights. They are more expensive than a lot of picks but well worth the money. Give em a try you wont be dissapointed.
