    Great stand for tight spaces

    By bepps

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

This stand can be very handy if you need to put a small cymbal in a tight spot around your set(I have mine in between my bass drums and my snare with a 6" effect cymbal attached). I would not recommend mounting your 24" ride cymbal on it, or even a crash cymbal over 16", but it is very stable despite it's dainty apperance.

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

I sold all of my double-braced stands and converted to DW flush base stands. My back thanks me after every gig. The stands are intelligently engineered. Not to mention the classic look goes great with my jazz kit.

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

I play professionally in a Christian Jazz Trio and with church worship bands and the CMA praise band. I bought these stands for their light weight and compactness to replace a mix of DW 3000, 5000 and 9000 stands that were just too bulky and heavy to lug around. These stands work perfectly for the style of music that I play and they complement the looks of my DW Performance Jazz/Bop kit. Initially I was a little concerned about the flat base stands as I had Gretsch flat stands back in the day and they were always wobbly or falling over, but DW as usual has reengineered these to have a classic look while at the same time being strong and steady. However, a note of caution if you are a young rock drummer who likes to beat the daylights out of your cymbals these are not the stands for you. They are for the musician that plays with control and finesse.

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

Finally! I love the look of flat based cymbal stands, and I also love how compactly they fold up and how light they are, and how easy they are to integrate into your setup. Sadly, the true vintage flat base stands are pricey and not always in the best of shape, because they are 40+ years old. I was glad when DW, Gibraltar, Pearl etc, started making flat base stands again 15 or so years ago, but those were never the same. The foot print is waaay to big on those stands, making them more difficult to integrate into your setup, and they are the same weight as a normal, basic double braced cymbal stand. Those always left me disappointed. But these new Ultralight DW's are the real deal! They have a small footprint (same if not a little smaller than the 60's Ludwigs), are very lightweight, fold very compactly, and are well made, sturdy and functional. Plus they look classy with any kit, not just vintage or jazz. If you want to have a epiphany of how light your hardware case can actually be, use these stands in place of your normal stands for one gig. You'll never go back! My only negative comment is the description says they come with integrated memory locks. These do NOT come with memory locks, but that's nothing some automotive hose clamps can't fix. Overall great stands and a real back saver!

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

I got 2 (and I had the snare stand). These are exactly what I'd hoped they'd be. Really light, but strong enough to hold a 22" ride and a 16" crash. No wobble, shorter legs take a little less floor space. Yes you have to be careful about setup, and don't clamp anything else on the stand. But the hardware bag is lighter and I'm sold on 'em.

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

I was skeptical at first, as this stand almost feels like a toy, but it is very sturdy. It's even lighter then the other DW flat base stands, with a smaller footprint too. Also, the legs of the stand can be extended downward if you don't want the flat base. This helps if you have a lot of stands to juggle. Some reviews have mentioned that this stand isn't for heavy hitters, but it can take the abuse. I will be replacing my other DW flat base stands with these ultralights!

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

I bought the lightweight stand package and wanted another stand to round it out. These are great stand when you are playing jazz or lower volume gigs. If you are playing loud or are a hard hitter, then these stands are probably not the right choice. I was around when this kind of stand was the standard, but those old stands were not built as well as these. These hold your cymbals safely and are about a third of the weight of a normal stand. What's nice is a whole set of these stands fit in a bag that doesn't require a hand truck to carry around. They do what they are supposed to do well and are portable. Buy a set for your smaller gigs and you wont be disappointed.

These are really nice lightweight stands. I had bought the hardware pack in the same series and wanted an extra one to go with my kit. Perfect for the jazz player or small kit player. They fold down to a really compact size too.

Comments about DW 6710 Ultralight Straight Cymbal Stand:

I have the earlier versions of this stand with the more bulky top section with the giant DW turn handles. Consequently I put the top section of a pearl cymbal stand in my DW to make a hybrid stand to my liking. I like how DW addressed that and got rid of the giant handles. Over all I like these stands. These are pretty easy to use, they are lightweight, and can be positioned close to the bass drum since the legs fit underneath.
