Comments about EMG 808X 8-String Active Guitar Pickup:
I 1st tried my regular 808 and heard that the 808 x had a passive pickup sound to it. Passive pickups are what I have on all my other guitars and I like thier sound more than actives. The 808 x's sound, didn't impress me as much as the 808, but they do sound similer, the 808 just stands out more in my opinion. I use a metalcore pedal for my crunch, and runs to a Bugera 333. I used to use a tube screamer with my amp lead channel, but the metalcore just sounds better and less cables. That could be the reason why the 808 sounds better so I'm sure it depends on what your running to and what your guitars body is made of. My guitar has a mahogony body and it mixed with my pedals and amp make the 808 sound better than my 808 x.
Comments about EMG 808X 8-String Active Guitar Pickup:
The install is fairly simple if you know what your doing, it takes a small amount of soldering depending on your guitar, I put these in an Ibanez Rga8. I love the tone, right now I only have one 9 volt and it sounds full and has tons of sustain. These pickups do not sound exactly like the emg 81, these sound less prossesed and more natural. They have the power and sustain of an active pickup with the tone of a great passive pickup, so its really the best of both worlds. I would recommend using (2) 9 volt batteries in serial when installing them, the only thing is EMG does not give you any instructions on how to wire 2 (9) volts in serial, nor do they provide you with 2 wires for (2) 9 volt batteries. I would defiantly recommend these pickups as a replacement for the Ibanez RGA8 stock pickups. The stock pickups had way too much bass and did not pronounce any of the lower strings the way you would want to hear them for an electric guitar.
Comments about EMG 808X 8-String Active Guitar Pickup:
I got these yesterday and installed them in my Ibanez RGA 8 8 string, and i am BLOWN AWAY by the tone. I have to say though i really wish these pickups came in white, instead of just straight black, but its really nothing to complain about.I HIGHLY recommend these pickups to anyone that wants to get the absolute most out of their 8 string guitar.
