Comments about EMG-SL20 Steve Lukather Prewired Pickguard/Pickup Set:
Build, sound, ease of install, and value all are amazing; in my opinion. I would highly recommend them if you are looking to breathe life into a guitar(strat in my case) that isn't meeting your expectations.
I replaced my stock pickups in a Fender American strat, and these far surpassed my expectations. They swapped out without any issues, and sound much better than the stockies. The pickups all sound great, but this is the first time I've actually used the middle pickup selection and really was pleased with the tone. The five way selection switch produces different, user friendly tones. It still has all the characteristics of a strat, only more headroom and presence.I am very pleased with their all around perfomance. There was no soldering at all necessary either...cool!
Extremely well built, clean install. Tone pots are smooth and fluid. Pickgaurd is actually very nice and multiply. Looks great and sounds great too. Emg has excellent attention to detail.
Got 'em on sale, and the loaded pickgaurd setup was cheaper than buying them seperately.

It is possible to squeeze this into a 1983 Kramer Pacer Deluxe by moving the humbucker a quarter inch, and trimming the guard to make room for the Floyd posts. A rotozip tool, dremel tool, and a little patience...and this old axe has a new lease on life. The result doesn't look butchered, either. The tone knob actually works! My better half, who doesn't play anything, remarked that the sound was "really good." Wish I had found this item ten years ago! Clean is clean, and no strat ever sounded this good. With a Digitech RPx400, some pretty good heavy stuff can be produced. This is a very sweet setup for anything but death metal...which isn't music, anyway.

I've had my EMG-SL20 pickguard set for over a month and I couldn't be happier. By adjusting the volume control on the guitar you can easily go from super clean to crunch but I think the real strong point of this set is the amount of tone adjustment available on the guitar control. I love my Fender Strat and that 'bell' sound I have always gotten from it, but now I find my bell sound has gotten much better. From Fender style blues to loud grinding crunch this pickup set has impressed my. The build quality is high and the installation is a simple 3 solder connections on the new supplied plug. This setup rocks for sure.
Comments about EMG-SL20 Steve Lukather Prewired Pickguard/Pickup Set:
All the strats sounds are in this set, all you should be aware is that the pickups are really sensitive to the height. These are so versatile that you'll have one axe for everything. The battery needs replacement after 3000 hours of use, thats a loooot!!! Ive had mine for more than a year and a half now so no problem at all.

I have always liked emg pickups the look the sound the quality here are the basic points: neck pickup: crystal clear clean tones good for jazz to classic rock, distorted crunchy enough for alternative to punk. Middle pickup: not that great but, good for mixing with bridge for out of phase sound. Bridge pickup: good clean tones for all styles, mid level distortion alt, punk, hard rock tones come out easily, full gain the 85 can do it all but this is where it does the best great crunch, runs you over with power this thing is like a sonic punch to the face. I think I hit all the basic points but the best thing is 3 solder contact spots thats it takes all of 5 mins. get it you can not and will not be dissapointed!
Comments about EMG-SL20 Steve Lukather Prewired Pickguard/Pickup Set:
I've had the EMG SL20 installed in a 1996 Fender American Standard Stratocaster for about 1 1/2 years. The sounds are very usable, ranging from plenty of singing output on the bridge p/u to a very strat-like voice on the neck p/u with pronounced highs. The most unique sound is in the 4th position, middle/neck, which is almost like a sweet piezo acoustic sound. Overall, I have found this set-up to sound fairly smooth, but always have to roll the treble off somewhat to keep it from sounding "brittle",which is par for most active set-ups. The main negative with this set-up is that in the 2nd position (humbridge and middle p/u),the humbucker does not split out to give you the sweeter strat-like sound, it's still full humbucker and middle. Battery life is fine, I change battery each time I restring (1 to 2 months, depending on use and "sweat level"(you know what I mean!).
Comments about EMG-SL20 Steve Lukather Prewired Pickguard/Pickup Set:
I have just bought this EMG Pro Series set and I love it. It is very wide and the humbucking sound is much richer and fatter than Kirk Hammett's EMG 81. The SLV single coil pickups are also crystal clear and this really adds a lot to the sustain of your guitar since it has a pre-amp inside.
