Comments about Ernie Ball 2255 Extra Slinky Pure Nickel Wrap Electric Guitar Strings:
Been using Nickel wound for years and started experimenting with pure nickel 6 months ago. I wish I would have discovered these strings 20+ years ago. I like to use 8-38's, 9-42's, 10-46's on my guitars. 10's sound and play great on my custom shop telecaster and 8's & 9's on PRS custom 22 & 24 guitars. I use Dr Z and Mesa amps with custom tube recipes and PDI-03 Palmer speaker simulators with Lexicon Reverb. I'm not really a pedal pusher, but do like to use my collectable toys once in a while to stir things up some. Basically, I like to use my amps and guitar controls instead of crutches! Pure nickel sounds very smooth, not (metallic-brite) like nickel wound. At first my ears were confused because the sound I was custom too was gone. Pure nickel will force you to tweak your amps and break out your pick box. Pure nickel seems to sustain longer then nickel wrap and has a smooth decay which will point out the natural sound of your instrument. My amps are set pretty clean and have no problem singing louder and longer than the heaviest sound on Planet Earth! No chainsaw buzzing going on here! Metal users will hate these strings maybe? But Blues-Jazz-Country players will find them useful for some applications or maybe all applications. I haven't divorced nickel wrap yet and if I do it'll be awhile...I think..., but my love affair with pure nickel has me grinning. I think I'll keep both beauties around a while just to keep me guessing when recording, but if this Pure nickel sound keeps me wanting more I'll have to say goodbye to what I've known for years and start a new life with a new friend that's as pure as nickel!
Comments about Ernie Ball 2255 Extra Slinky Pure Nickel Wrap Electric Guitar Strings:
Sounds great for neo classical, Van Halen, extreme stuff, love the tone on it. The only problem with it, is that it wears out quickly, but if you wipe the stings down and you'll be fine.
