I found these strings to work fantastic except for the top string. The top is still too light if you drop tune to "A". I had to take the .65 gauge off of my friends bass (sorry dude) to make it feel nice and tight but not too tight. A .56 kept coming out of tune whenever i started to jam a little. So i suggest going and making a custom set by buying individual ernie ball strings and using a .65 gauge actual guitar string...not a bass one.

You get the best tone out of these strings ever. Standard 6-string tuning with these things can sound as heavy as playing in drop C. Tight, responsive, and dynamic. The most brutal strings ever with metal, and with blues and jazz you roll your volume back a little and you get the best mellow sounds ever.

I've used Ernie Ball strings in general for around 22 years of the 31 years that I've been playing. When I started adapting the 7 string guitar into my playing, I started using this set. These strings are consistent night after night in tonality and reliability to stay in tune, and they don't seem to pick up corrosion as easily as some strings do. My only request is that perhaps Ernie Ball consider a "Light top/Heavy bottom" version of these strings, perhaps increasing the gauge of the low B string to .60 from the now .56
