I use these on my Schecter Damien Elite. The scale length is 26.5 inches. Most 8 string guitars users have 27 to 30 inch scale length. These strings are much too heavy for the longer scale lengths; due to the high tension. The Damien Elite 8 comes loaded with these strings in 440 standard. This is great if you are an experienced Jazz player who expects the higher tension. Also these strings are not aggressive like standard "rock" strings. These strings are a strange balance between the two worlds where you can do pretty much both. However because of this most metal players will be disappointed with this fact; because they simply do not feel or act like other strings sets. They are very much heavier and fuller sounding yet lack the ultra high saturation if you will. You can get it but it's a bit different. I would only use this set on a 25.5 inch scale 440 standard if you want a warmer sound. I use these on a 26.5 with the whole guitar tuned a half step down. My biggest complaint with these strings is the 7 and 8th strings are not quite heavy enough. The balance is off a bit where the lows are significantly loose compared to the 1 through 6 strings. The greatest strength for these strings is the fact that they will last a very long time properly maintained.

I hate giving Ernie Ball a low rating but they really messed up on this one. I would reccommend a set of Labella Crazy 8, while a little more pricey, they don't taper a half inch on the fretboard from the nut. That's what killled it for me, other than that it would be an excellent string.
I recently purchased a set of these strings because I love Ernie Ball strings. I use an Agile Intrepid 8 string. Don't get me wrong, they're an excellent brand but the taper on the 8th string ruined it for me. While it makes winding on the tuning peg easier, the taper starts way too early. On my first fret half is the thick good part, and the half closest to the nut is tapered. It's unplayable, this string and looks plain silly. I may reccommend tapering further down the scale, since we have 33" to work with, I don't understand why the taper starts so early on down the string. If it were a inch or two further down the string, it would be an excellent rating.
Ernie Ball makes excellent strings, but the lowest string tapers a half inch from the nut on the first fret.
While the other strings are playable, the 8th string is not.

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:
I've always used Ernie ball strings, but I bought these on an impulse not knowing what to expect. I am very surprised at how good these strings sound. I noticed right away they improved my tone substantially.
I know strings and tone are subject to individual opinion, but I don't think I'll ever use another set for my 7 string guitars,

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:
ernie ball still hasn't taken notice to other manufacturers sealed packaging.. still. out of the pack onto my new ibanez rg8 (26.5 inch scale tuned EBEADGBE) the tone was as bright as ernie ball typically is brand new, dulling to a moderately bright after a few hours of breaking in. they play and bend well my only real complaint is the 8th string gauge but given the fact there's currently no better options other than buying a separate top string or top 2... they'll do, i hate to recommend to a friend but there isn't anything better available at the moment :-/

Like the others said. Tried putting these on a Schecter SLS C-8 EX. The taper on the lowest string (F# for me) doesn't go back far enough and makes it unusuable on a 28" scale.

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:
I bought myself a Schecter Damien Elite 8 string last year and since string sets weren't readily available for 8 stringed guitars I had to get what I could from another string company. Well those strings were from D' Addario. The F# string wouldn't fully go thru my tuning peg because they were a bit too large to fit in and I had to have the string wrapped around like 10 times with just the wire going through. So, I went to Schecter's site and saw that they were selling their brand which was made by Ernie Ball for an astronomical price, which led my to look for Ernie Ball 8 string branded strings. These are the ones, the fit, the feel, all is well in my 8 stringed world again!

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:
Ernie Ball completely failed on this one! Ernie Ball is my usual brand of string, but whoever put this set together knows absoultely nothing about string tension or 8 string guitars. 8 string guitars are extended scale instruments from 27-30", so why are they putting a .054 for the E and a .064 on the B? In their 7 string sets they put a .052 or .056 on their low B, and that's for a normal 25.5" scale. Do you see any logic in this? Then they put a .074 on the 8th string. It's actually a good choice for the 8th string tension-wise (if the rest of the strings were balanced), but it has WAY too little tension compared to the low E and B. Compared to the other incredibly heavy strings in the pack it makes no sense. If you want a nice, balanced set look into LaBella Crazy 8's, or just buy a 7 string set and add on the appropriate 8th string.
