Simply put, the best snare head I've had. Great attack, not too much sustain, great definition, all around a great head. versatile too! I have one on my 14" pdp metal snare, my 13" ludwig maple piccolo, and 13" pearl birch, and it tunes right up to any drum! Worth the money, best head (and the most resilient!) that I've ever played, hands down
this head has great attack, not too much sustain, and very few overtones if you tune it right, I find that if you use moongel it makes it perfect, also amazing definition!
I play metal and beat the hell out of my drums, and this has yet to break yet alone dent, and the coating is still intact. If it can handle my hitting, It's almost guaranteed that it'll survive for you.
Pretty decent price, and it's definitely the best you can get in my opinion, and I've played and broken many snare heads in my day

I bought this drum head thinking it was a regular snare drum head and with a little tuning I could get it to sound fine. boy was I wrong. This head completely destroys all of your snare drums overtones, not just some, but all. it makes it sound dead, not dry. I would recommend anything but this. I tried to tune my snare for over an hour and I couldn't come up with anything remotely decent sounding. Do not buy this head*

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I am a Jazz/Big Band drummer. I have been playing and teaching professionally for 30+ years - from small accoustic trios to 18-piece big bands. I normally play 5.5x14 metal shelled snare drums. I use the Genera Dry on snare drums that do not have internal mufflers. It eliminates excessive ring, yet still will resonate playing off center toward the rim. It works very well on my Ludwig LM400 and Yamaha SD-295. I will use the regular Genera on my vintage drums which generally have an internal muffler. It is a sensitive single ply 10mil head with a good coating which works well for brushes. It has an underside ring control just like the Genera. Only difference are the small holes around the edge which eliminate some additional ring. Think of the Genera line as being a G1 and the HD line as being a G2 but with tone control. I have traditionally used coated Remo Ambassadors on my snare drums for years. I just like the sound of the Evans Genera Dry and/or Genera coated heads better.

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I have been using Evans drum heads exclusively for about 10 years. This particular purchase was to replace the HD Dry Batter Snare Head on my 1975 Ludwig Supraphonic. The HD Dry choked way too much of the tone out of this drum, and the Genera Dry Batter Snare Head seems to be better in this aspect. I'm playing my first live gig with this head tonight, so we'll see how it sounds mic'd up.

The Perfect Snare Drum Head!

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

This head delivers! After experimenting with all sorts of dampening/muffling methods, I took an chance on the Genera Dry on Gretsch Catalina Maple snare at my church. I wanted a nice solid attack, but with some "body" to the sound. The result was the perfect snare sound, whether tuned low or high!I've also used it on a deep-shell Ludwig Supraphonic with the same pleasant results.I recently purchased a used Ludwig kit, and I will definitely outfit the snare with this head.

The best all round snare batter head!

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I change heads more often than most drummers and I am always looking for something new and better, but I keep coming back to this head that I have been using now for the past 20 years.
This is a white 10 mil. coated batter head that has an additional 2 mil. ring on the underside that helps to supress ringing overtones, it also has dry vents around the outer edge that helps to give your drum a more focused sound.
These are the best sounding batter heads that I have found for snare drums and I have tried many in my quest for a great sounding snare.
These are not the cheapest snare batter heads you can buy, but you get what you pay for.

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I've been playing for 21 years now. I have tried almost every head and combo possible. This by far is the best head I have ever used. Gives you all the control of tones you want, and all the versatility you could want. I just recorded with it yesterday, and sounds as good as any trigger sound pro-tools can offer you. Buy this head..You WILL like it.

Dissapointed, overall.....

By WV DrumBear

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

While this head may work fine for "pop" or rock, and may sound like a million bucks under a good microphone, it's sorely lacking (for me) for live performance. I played an "informal" party last night, attended by our (WV's) state governor....I felt like I was playing a cardboard box. It's coming off the drum ASAP, and being relegated to the "island of misfit heads". Back to the regular Evans G1 coated for me.

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

This head is outstanding, it brings out the body of the snare drum without loss of sensitivity or snap. It's easy to tune and works both high and low. I us one on my Craviotto Copper and one on my Joyful Noise snare.

Great for deep drums!

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I have a 14x7 steambent snare that had this uncontrollable ring and this head made a world of difference. It took out the annoying ring but kept the body and depth that i bought the snare for. Plus it ads snare sensitivity that i never thought this snare would have. I have always been a remo man but this head might just make me convert! If you have a deep snare drum and want it to respond like a piccolo but keep its deep snare sound, Buy this head!

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I have used this drumhead for over 10 years, my first one finally split after over 10 years of use. IF you have a classic chrome snare, like the ludwig 10 lug chrome, you will NOT need to use much muffler at all. The holes in this drumhead remove the ring perfectly, giving a nice dry sound, but still a sharp chrome snare attack.

Comments about Evans Genera Dry Batter Snare Head:

I tried this head on a few different snares and I have to say that I was absolutely amazed at how dry it was. I like a tiny bit of ring in my snares, yet controlled and this head killed almost all of the tone in the drum. It sounded like a really thick cardboard box. If you are going for a 70s dead snare tone then this will do the trick and then some. Its super easy to tune because there really isn't much tone to tune in once its on. It really wasn't for me and I got rid of it after 5 minutes of use. If you are like me and want the ring very controlled but still want to hear the actual drum then try the hd genera dry. I found my head from heaven with that one. For some reason this one was wayyyy to dead for my tastes

Gives a very nice crisp sound but still retains sensitivity. If tuned high you can get a satisfying crack for pop/rock music or if tuned a little lower you get a nice meaty sound.

I now have this head on both a low end snare and a high end snare. Normally it takes me hours to tune my snares and hopefully get a sound I really like. It takes me about 30 minutes to get a good sounding snare with this head. Even my low end snare sounds incredible to the point I will use it on stage if I want to. This head leaves just enough overtones to make the drum sing, but with a short sustain. No more muffling of any kind on my snares!

This head sounds fantastic! I had previously been using a Remo ambassador coated snare head and with that i would have at least 5 or 6 moongels on at a time. Then when i switched to this i was so impressed. I definitely recommend this head to someone who wants little to no ring on there snare drum.
