OVERVIEW

The thickest, most durable film-based snare head in the Evans stable.

Designed with the heavy hitter in mind, the Evans Heavyweight Reverse Dot Batter Head is 20mil thick at the center of the head. While thicker heads often choke out due to extreme mass, the heavyweight reverse dot patch flexes for a wider dynamic range and extra focus and attack.

Evans Level 360 technology is incorporated to extend the level playing surface of the drumhead, 360 degrees around the drum. The vertically enhanced collar design guarantees even contact with the bearing edge of the drum shell, resulting in: ease of tuning, extended pitch range and optimum quality of sound.

Comments about Evans Heavyweight Reverse Dot Snare Drumhead:

The design of the head put out by Evans on this one is amazing! Replacing your old drum head and the tuning process became so much easier. The sound is good, most of which depends on your preference. It definitely is a quality drum head that will give you the bang for the buck.

A great snare head that gives you added durability without comprising tone and sound quality. Perfect for drummers that play rock and metal that need a little more oomph.

Comments about Evans Heavyweight Reverse Dot Snare Drumhead:

I've tried 5 different Evans snare heads on my 14 x 8 steel snare so far. G1, G2, Power Center Reverse Dot, Genera HD, and now the Heavyweight. This one is similar to the PCRD in my ears. It has more attack and a lot more low end tone. Although after playing on it for a couple weeks, it's absolutely a bit less sensitive than the others I've tried. I don't use a lot of ghost notes or quiet rolls, and I play hard rock and metal music. So the lack of sensitivity doesn't bother ME but I could see this being an issue for those playing other genres or styles. With that being said I like this head a lot, and if you're looking for a fat snare sound this will do it for sure.

Slightly different than a Remo Emperor X in a good way.

Comments about Evans Heavyweight Reverse Dot Snare Drumhead:

I bought this head for a 6.5 x 14 black beauty. I had used a Remo Emperor X on it, mostly for a fat rock backbeat. These heads (Emperor X and heavyweight) are thick, so your articulation for double strokes and things are affected somewhat. I liked the Emperor X, but I was intrigued about the Evans equivalent after reading somewhere that the Evans head sounded less "throaty" than an Emperor X. I know what the person was talking about with the "throaty" description. Both heads are very similar in sound, but the Evans does sound ( to me ) more like a 2 ply head with less of that mid-rangey, throaty tonality. Please be aware that thicker heads like these don't really come alive until the head is tightened up in the mid to high mid range. It will sound tubby and kind of flat at lower tunings. For a powerful, fat backbeat, I think this head sounds a little better than an Emperor X and closer to the sound of a coated 2 ply head. The durability is great and the coating lasts longer than Remo's. This head sounds great on my brass shell black beauty and there is no need to muffle it. It leaves just enough of the resonance of the shell to sound powerful and pop. I can only speak of how this drum works on a brass shell. I'm not sure I would use it on a wooden shell or on a snare drum that wasn't very resonant. Anyway, it works well for me and I'll probably lean toward this head over an Emperor X in the future.

Comments about Evans Heavyweight Reverse Dot Snare Drumhead:

This double ply head is Very Dominating in character, meaning it sort of takes over your snare drum. I was surprised that it sounded rather tubby at lower tunings. For me it worked best it best at medium (85psi) to medium tight tunings (94psi). These are pretty loud heads and want to be played loud- hence the name "Heavy Hitter" . It gives you a Giant backbeat with a very full tone ,but it also produces a hefty overtone that must be dealt with properly in tuning. I put one on my 14x5 maple Performance Series DW snare. It did help the drum to really come alive with a big projecting sound. Getting a tight snare sound from this head is something I hope to achieve thru tuning experimentation , but it doesn't really want to go there. This head comes stock with the Matt Halpern Wraith snare that I just got.
It has a similar effect on that drum as well, very dominating, far more than another head I've ever used.

I found that this head is really good for getting a low, "phat" tuning on snares (I've tried it on two brass snares and one stave). I still used muffling since this head has no muffling on the edge, but it's thick enough and I think it also looks better than the EC Reverse Dot. It's a bit too much at higher tunings for my tastes.
