Best snare head I've ever used

By Anonymous

Comments about Evans SD14 Genera HD Coated White Snare Head:

I've been using this head for about 5 years now. I use it playing contemporary praise and worship on a Truth 6.5x14 chamber snare. I constantly get compliments on my snare sound. The tone is incredible. I'm about to replace this head with a new one just because it's been on so long, but the crazy thing is that even after playing it for such a long time, it still sounds incredible and it still looks strong and solid in the middle of the head. I used to play Remo heads, but after using evans heads, I'm sold on them. The durability of this head has been awesome. The muffle ring inside allows you to play it wide open but not have any unwanted ring or overtones. Good stuff. I would definitely recommend this snare batter.

Comments about Evans SD14 Genera HD Coated White Snare Head:

My snare had an original factory head on it when I bought it. Sounded metallic and not much rebound (it was old) after lots of research I settled on this head and my snare is killer now. No baffles or anything

Breath new life into your snare

Comments about Evans SD14 Genera HD Coated White Snare Head:

I've been super impressed with the sound from this head. On my 6.5" snare, it has extraordinary bite in the center and the rimshots are other-worldly. Easily projects over other sounds when playing live and is still very good for brushes and studio playing. The overtone control ring on the inside does a great job of muffling the unwanted ringing without making the drum sound choked.

The Genera HD coated drum has was easy to tune - sounded great right off the bat. I am still tweaking the tuning, bringing up the pitch gradually and it sounds great. I put this head on my Yamaha brass 6 x14 snare. It added warmth to the sound and stick action off the head is great.

Comments about Evans SD14 Genera HD Coated White Snare Head:

I use Evans heads exclusively. The Genera HD is probably my favorite snare head. It's got attack and tone for days. I use this for my 14 x 8 snare but I've heard it on many others. This is the best 2 ply snare head I've ever used.

I have to say I love this Head, BUT, I am BIAS for one reason that most drummers don't use! I have Wooden Rims! I did use these same rims with standard steel rims, and didn't care to much for them, honest to say, They gave off a lot of ring! and didn't give me the CRACK i really wanted, But a year ago i put Wooden rims on my DW snare, and i have a Remo Black Suede Reso head. To make a long story short, i tried this head again! I WAS AMAZED ! This head gave me everything i was wanting out of my snare! the POP WAS THERE! THE CRACK WAS THERE! Literately No ring! I will call MF and stock up on this head!

Comments about Evans SD14 Genera HD Coated White Snare Head:

I prefer a snare drum sound with snap and a little sustain and I love these HD heads (not a fan of highly damped snare sound). They can be tuned high or low and generally sound great. They are balanced and durable. I have used them with great results on a DW solid maple (Craviotto) snare and a Ludwig Super-Sensitive knock-off Yamaha solid steel snare. The head makes both drums sound great. If you like a drier snare sound, try the HD Dry version with vent holes. I have used that head also and was pleased with the result. For what it's worth, sound guys usually complement the sound of my kit.

this has to be one of my favorite snare heads ever by evans. If you tune it medium tight it has such a great tone. it cracks so well, but still has a warm sound that will make you want to play the snare more. I love this head, and will never go back to Remo snare heads after using this.

This is a fantastic head and definatley worth the price. The sound is very warm and bright. I have my snare head tuned Really tight which gives it a nice marching snare sound to it and i like how it sounds with the rest of my kit. Btw if your using a drumdial theres no way in hell that your gonna get this head up to 90. I have mine at seventy and that is extremely tight for a thick head like this

Just picked this up and tuned it up to my mapex saturn pro 14" snare. Like others have said, medium tight (meaning tight but not choking or not too high pitched), this head sings beautifully. Unlike single ply heads, you dont have to crank this one up so much. Also, if you are having trouble getting a good soung again, I recommend tuning the snare side (resonant side) head low. Atleast on my type of snare, this gives it a way less marching snare sound and way more rock/modern sound. I don't like hearing alot of snare action and apparently the looser the bottom head is, the better it works out.I play experi-metal and this really allows me to slam it.
