I find these picks easier to grip because of the starburst hole in the plastic. For a player with arthritis like myself, these picks are a real helper as they will not slip out of my fingers as easily as a standard pick. When my hands get sweaty from excessive playing, these picks are much more grippable and easier to control than a standard pick. A really helpful, well thought out product.

A great idea. You can feel your fingers touching which gives you a more relaxed grip on the pick. If you pick too heavy but still want a hard pick I can see these as useful.

Problem for me (and I'm sure others) is that the hole is exactly in the top middle. I doubt most people hold a pick that way but maybe they do. I pinch a pick forward and closer to the bottom, making the hole more of a nuisance.

It takes a pretty impressive innovation to get a patent on something as simple as a guitar pick! Hats off to Everly for introducing a pick that won't rotate or slip out from between your thumb and finger.

AM BASICALLY TAKING THE WORDS FROM A PRIOR REVIEWER .........
Star hole in the middle which lets your thumb and index finger make contact. And because of it, it acts like a wheel and the pick spins when you play. Even when you hold tight. I'm sticking to the Max Grip picks. So just think about this before you buy.

              Good grip and good thickness

              By Whan-Soo Kang

              from San Jose, CA

Comments about Everly Star Grip Guitar Pick Dozen:

I purchased these picks for furious strumming on my acoustic guitar. Fender thin picks produce nice crisp sound but I tend to break them a lot. Everly Star Grip picks are 0.50 mm which is a little bit thicker than the Fender thin picks but not as thick as my 0.60 mm picks. While the 0.60 mm picks are good for hard picking solos they are not so good for fast and accurate strums. Everly's 0.50 mm picks fill the needs here nicely. I was a bit apprehensive that a crack may develop in the narrow parts around the star hole. It doesn't. The fingers act as a support holding the pick from bending too far to the point of breaking. The only thing I would have wanted in addition is somehow the hole pattern match the way I grip the pick with thumb and two fingers instead of just the index finger. I feel more secure with three finger grip. Making hole pattern this way may be difficult, though.
The star grip is what you buy this for.
              Good.
              Reasonable.

Comments about Everly Star Grip Guitar Pick Dozen:

Dunlop makes a pick that has the same "powder" feel as these, but when that powdery feel wears off, you're left with a slick, shiny pick that is more likely to slip out of your fingers. With these picks, the star shaped hole helps you keep your grip, even after the pick starts to get smooth and shiny. Also, if you like to use a heavy pick but want to play with a light strumming technique, these are the picks to choose. The hole lets you grip finger-to-thumb, which keeps a secure hold, but you can allow the pick to pivot loosely around your grip, to lighten your strum.

These are nice pics and a great idea but I still have trouble keeping them from slipping out of hand. I got the 1.0mm because I'm a flat picker. They seem to grab the strings more than say a Jim Dunlop Big Stubby. The tone though is similar to the tortex 1.14mm which I like but I have a problem with controlling those when playing fast, maybe I need some super glue.

I have been playing-out with my acoustic guitar for over twenty years. In that time I have used many guitar picks, but these are the ones I swear-by these days. I have been using these for several years now and won't change any time soon! If you haven't tried them, do it. You'll love them!

I never drop a pick since switching to these. Never. I don't have the problem I sometimes used to have with the pick turning in my fingers while playing. The STAR cut out is the key.

I like the feel of this pick in my fingers. It is much easier to trip than a standard pick. It can still spin between your fingers though, especially if your playing a driving rhythm. I find myself having to "adjust" my grip in the middle of certain songs. This is nothing new though as a standard pick does this more consistently so I would say this pick is a definite improvement!

After 25 plus years of plain Fender picks I picked one of these up off the stage where someone else dropped it. I liked it. It has the same feel like a traditional pick but that pointed star hole helps it keep from rotating and is an easy grip, without being noticable, like the rough surface picks nylon picks that some other companies make. This is my new pick choice

I can hang on to these picks. They don't turn while I'm playing. I like the yellow, orange and red sizes for guitar and bass. Best picks for me. I've never broken one of these picks but they will wear down after heavy use. That's why you buy a dozen or more when you find "THE" pick for you. When you find something that works you stick with it. I'm sticking with these. Star Grip picks rule. I like all Everly products.

Switched to these because I can't keep ahold of my favorites, Claytons. These picks stay put plaine and simple. I haven't broken any but I use 1.00 and 1.14's. I'm not the happiest with the sound they produce but as you get older you do what you must. If you have picks that slip up into your hand or that fly out of your hand try these out.

I'm always in the hunt for the perfect guitar pick. I've tried more picks than I can count over the years. I have a drawer full of picks. All kinds of shapes and textures. My conclusion is their is no such thing as the perfect guitar pick. So here we go again, a couple of months ago I bought the star grip pick .88mm worked good. I would use large radius side as well as the regular pick side and found I was picking faster and more accurately. Star hole in the middle did the trick for me. So I tried 1.0mm, nope didn't like it. Ordered more .88mm and that is what I use now.

Definintley much harder to drop than regular picks. You have to choose the right guage of course. I've tried the red, yellow, orange and green but am currently settled on the orange as the "about right match of the old medium" choice (based on the days when the only choices in picks were soft, medium and hard)..
Since using these I rarely drop picks any more. They work great.
                                      No complaints. Typical pick material.
                                      Seem realsonably priced.
